[REVIEW] Korean Drama 'REVENANT', Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se's Struggle to Find the Identity of the Evil Spirit that Killed Many People

Kapanlagi.com - After the success of TWENTY FIVE TWENTY ONE, Kim Tae Ri makes a comeback through the latest Korean drama titled REVENANT. This drama is one of the most highly anticipated shows because it will showcase a different charm of Kim Tae Ri in the supernatural genre.

Written by Kim Eun Hee known for popular works such as SIGNAL, KINGDOM, and JIRISAN, REVENANT is scheduled to air starting today, Friday (23/6) at 9 PM WIB on Disney+ Hotstar.

In addition to Kim Tae Ri, this drama also stars a number of top Korean artists. Familiar names include Oh Jung Se (Yeom Haesang), Hong Kyung (Lee Hongsae), Park Ji Young (Yoon Kyung Moon), Jin Seon Kyu (Gu Gang Mo), Kim Won Hae (Seo Moon Choon), and many more.

1. Gu Sanyeong, Hardworking Character

Kim Tae Ri plays the character named Gu Sanyeong, a woman who lives a simple life with her mother (played by Park Ji Young). To make a living and take care of her sick mother, Gu Sanyeong works hard with many part-time jobs.

One day, Gu Sanyeong and her mother, Yung Kyung Moon, became victims of voice phishing scams and lost all their money and savings. Although the perpetrator was caught by the police, the victims' money could not be returned.

2. Mysterious Death of Gu Sanyeong's Father

One day, Gu Sanyeong's mother took her to a place after receiving a phone call. To her surprise, their destination was to mourn Gu Gang Mo, Gu Sanyeong's father who died mysteriously.

Gu Sanyeong was shocked to learn that her father was still alive all this time. Yung Kyung Moon apparently hid the fact that she and Gu Gang Mo had divorced when their daughter was only 5 years old. To keep Gu Sanyeong away from her father, Yung Kyung Moon made up a story that her ex-husband had passed away.

3. Gu Sanyeong & Yeom Haesang's First Meeting

Upon arriving at her father's house, Gu Sanyeong met her grandmother for the first time. There, her grandmother gave her a box containing her late father's belongings, which turned out to be a red hair accessory.

Not only did she meet her grandmother, but Gu Sanyeong also met Yeom Haesang for the first time, a man who worked as a folklore professor (the same job as Gu Gang Mo). Interestingly, Yeom Haesang is not an ordinary professor. Played by Oh Jung Se, the character Yeom Haesang is a wealthy indigo man who can see the presence of demons.

When they passed by the funeral home, Yeom Haesang was shocked to find an evil spirit possessing Gu Sanyeong's body. To make matters worse, the spirit was the same demon that killed her mother when she was a child.

4. Evil Spirit with Loose Hair

Yeom Haesang apparently also received a message from Gu Gang Mo to protect his daughter, Gu Sanyeong, before he passed away. He didn't understand what was really happening because he had only been investigating Gu Gang Mo for his thesis on Korean witchcraft about evil spirits with loose hair.

That's what made him interested and curious about Gu Gang Mo. Because the evil spirit in the thesis is the same ghost that once killed his mother and is now possessing Gu Sanyeong's body.

5. Mirror & Door

What's interesting about this drama is that ordinary objects in our daily lives can show the existence of evil spirits. Like Yeom Haesang's message to Gu Sanyeong to pay attention to herself in front of the mirror because she will see something unusual.

The evil spirit attached to Gu Sanyeong's body grows by fulfilling someone's needs, including by killing people they hate or want to disappear. This evil spirit is manifested as a shadow of a woman with long loose hair.

In addition to the mirror, Yeom Haesang also warns Gu Sanyeong to be careful of the door. Because through the door, the human world can connect with the world beyond, without us knowing when the time is right.

6. Will Gu Sanyeong and Yeom Haesang Succeed in Finding the Identity of the Evil Spirit?

This drama becomes more intense with a tense atmosphere in every scene. The audience is made curious about every mysterious continuation of the story, as well as various ghost sightings made as natural as possible, but still manages to make us shudder.

Mirrors, doors, and red hair accessories are the key to finding the identity of the evil spirit that possesses Gu Sanyeong's body. Only then can they find out why the evil spirit killed many people, what revenge it holds, and perhaps eliminate it from the world.

In addition, Yeom Haesang also wants to find out the answer to the question that has been on her mind for decades, why the evil spirit killed her mother. While Gu Sanyeong wants the people around him to be safe, he doesn't want anyone else to be killed just because they know him.
