Sexy Nurse Costume of Jennie BLACKPINK in 'Lovesick Girls' MV Criticized, YG Entertainment Speaks Out

Unfortunately, behind the success of BLACKPINK's comeback this time, there is a harsh criticism given by netizens and the Korean Association of Health and Medical Workers (PPKMK). This is related to one of the costumes worn by Jennie in the MV.

The scene intended no other purpose, and we feel concerned that this scene has fallen under exaggerated scrutiny.

1. Protest PPKMK

In one scene while rapping, Jennie can be seen wearing a tight nurse costume, a mini skirt, with high heels. As reported by Allkpop, PPKMK considers Jennie's nurse costume scene to be sexual and 'far from the reality of nurse uniforms'.

PPKMK adds that although nurses are healthcare professionals and have a medical profession, many people objectify them because of the large number of women working as nurses. They also remind the public that there are still many nurses who have been treated poorly and sexually harassed.

"Although nurses continue to fight for this issue, YG Entertainment objectifies them in BLACKPINK's MV. The situation worsens because pop culture also changes the meaning of a nurse. Now that BLACKPINK's song is at the top of the global charts, we ask YG Entertainment to take responsibility for what they have done to balance it with their popularity and influence," said PPKMK.

2. Creating Hashtags

Protests are not enough, many netizens, including those who claim to be a nurse, are participating in a hashtag campaign on social media. The hashtags they use include #Stop_Sexualizing_Nurses and a Korean hashtag that means nurses are not costumes.

After receiving many protests regarding Jennie's costume, YG finally spoke out on Tuesday morning (6/10/2020). They explained the meaning of the clothing worn by Jennie.

3. Statement from YG

"First and foremost, we would like to express deep respect for the professional nurses who are fighting on the front lines, always taking care of patients at their workplace.

Furthermore, the song Lovesick Girls raises the question of why people search for love even after being hurt and suffering from it. It also conveys a message of hope in exploring the idea of love itself.

The scenes in the MV Lovesick Girls depict a nurse and a patient to express the lyrics 'No doctor can help when I'm lovesick'. There is no other intention behind this scene, and we are concerned that this scene has been excessively monitored.

We ask viewers to see this MV as another form of free art. We would appreciate it if viewers could understand that each scene visually expresses the lyrics, without any other meaning behind it. However, the production staff is considering editing the questioned scene."
