SQUID GAME Actor Becomes First Korean Actor to Win Golden Globe

Once again, SQUID GAME made history when one of its actors became the first Korean actor to win the Golden Globe Award. The star of SQUID GAME who received this prestigious award is Oh Yeong-su who played the role of Oh II-nam.

The 77-year-old South Korean star, also known as Player 001 in the series, defeated people like Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass from THE MORNING SHOW, Kieran Culkin from SUCCESSION, and Brett Goldstein from the film TED LASSO. Oh Yeong-Su took home the Best Supporting Actor in Television award.

Oh Yeong-Su's victory was announced at a private ceremony broadcasted online without celebrity presenters and speeches. The organizers previously announced that this year's Golden Globes would be a scaled-down event.

Oh Yeong-Su gave his comment when he appeared on MBC's How Do You Play? "I feel like I'm floating in the air. It made me think, 'I need to calm down, organize my thoughts, and restrain myself now.'"

"Things have changed a bit. Even when I go to a cafe or places like that, I now have to be aware [of how I appear to others]. It made me think, 'Becoming famous is also difficult.'" He added.

Born in 1944 in Kaepung, which is now a border town in North Korea, Oh is considered one of South Korea's greatest stage actors. He has appeared in over 200 stage productions since 1963 and has won several major awards. His victory marks the first time a Korean drama or TV actor has been nominated for and won a Golden Globe.

He has also played many charismatic supporting characters in films and television, including in SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, WINTER... AND SPRING released in 2003 by award-winning director Kim Ki-duk.
