The film ESCAPE tells the story of Lim Kyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon), who is a North Korean soldier. He dreams of starting a new life in South Korea. In order to achieve his dream, he must leave his home country and cross the Korean Demilitarized Zone.

Meanwhile, Officer Ri Hyeon Sang (Koo Kyo Hwan) from the North Korean State Security Department is pursuing Lim Kyu Nam. Hyeon Sang actually recognizes Kyu Nam from childhood. Instead of accusing Kyu Nam, Hyeon Sang decides to make Kyu Nam a hero who captures a defector.

Hyeon Sang gains Kyu Nam's trust by saving his life. Although he is living peacefully, Kyu Nam always wants to live his own life, not under someone else's command.

Kyu Nam never gives up and always tries to cross the border. On the other hand, Hyeon Sang desperately tries to stop and protect the life that Kyu Nam has built by giving up his own dreams.
