In South Korea, actors and actresses who have gained various experiences and prestigious awards in the field of acting will be awarded the title 'Chungmuro'. This title is a symbol for actors and actresses whose films have successfully entered the Korean box office.

Quoted from Rolling Stone, the word 'Chungmuro' actually comes from a place that gave birth to Korean films, located north of the Han River. In the 60s, the Chungmuro area was filled with film companies, cinemas, and production houses. However, the popularity of Chungmuro declined due to the relocation of many film companies and studios to Gangnam in the 90s.

1. Jun Ji Hyun

Jun Ji Hyun is one of the top South Korean actresses who is listed as a recipient of the Chungmuro award. Ji Hyun reached the peak of popularity when she starred in the film My Sassy Girl in 2001.

Not only in Korea, Jun Ji Hyun also expanded her wings by playing in a feature film titled Blood: The Last Vampire. Because of her role in the film, Ji Hyun received praise from critics, KLovers.

2. Park Seo Joon

This actor, born in 1988, started his career by appearing in the music video for 'I Remember' by Bang Yong Guk in 2011. Furthermore, he also starred in several dramas, such as Dream High, Pots of Gold, Kill Me Heal Me, and She Was Pretty.

Park Seo Joon reached the peak of his popularity when he starred in the dramas Fight for My Way and Itaewon Class. Thanks to his outstanding acting, he even received an offer to star in the film The Marvels. 

3. Kim Tae Ri

This actress, who is an alumnus of Kyung Hee University, is also one of the actresses who received the Chungmuro title. After completing her education, she chose to enter the world of acting. Until now, Tae Ri has starred in many films and dramas, some of which are The Handmaiden, Little Forest, Twenty Five Twenty One, and Revenant. 

4. Kang Dong Won

Dong Won has become one of the famous actors in South Korea since winning the Best New Actor award at the Critics Choice Awards in 2004. Some of the films he has starred in are Monday Thursday, The Priests, Peninsula, and Broker. 

5. Han Hyo Joo

Han Hyo Joo has been actively participating in beauty contests organized by Binggrae since she was a teenager. However, she decided to focus on her acting career afterwards. Hyo Joo has appeared in several films and dramas, such as The Beauty Inside, The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure, W, and Happiness. 

6. Lee Jung Jae

Lee Jung Jae is known to be a top actor in South Korea for many years. Currently, he is gaining international attention for his role in the phenomenal drama Squid Game in 2021.  According to Britannica, one of Jung Jae's films that successfully entered the hit box office is Oh! Brothers and Typhoon.
