Taiwanese Actor Lee Wei and Wife Become Murder Suspects, Released on Bail

The cause of Tsai's death was rhabdomyolysis, suspected to be due to abuse. During the investigation, Lee Wei and his wife, Chien Yu-chia, were implicated in alleged physical violence that led to Tsai's death.

Lee Wei, known for popular dramas like 'Toast Boy's Kiss', was released on bail of NT$ 300,000 (approximately Rp 145 million) on February 26 after being named a suspect. His wife, Chien, was also released on bail of NT$ 150,000 (approximately Rp 72 million), while the investigation is still ongoing by the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office.

According to reports, Wang Yun, the spiritual leader of the involved Buddhist group, allegedly became angry with Tsai over financial issues. Wang is said to have asked some of his followers to carry out violent actions against Tsai.

Lee Wei and his wife were allegedly present at the scene and may have witnessed or even participated in the actions. Audio recording evidence could also potentially strengthen their involvement.

The case began when police received a report about an unconscious woman on the first floor of a property on Siwei Street, Taipei. After investigation, it was found that the woman was Tsai, who turned out to be the accountant for the Buddhist group.

The autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was rhabdomyolysis, which is often caused by traumatic injuries. The case involves 11 suspects, including Lee Wei and four others who have been detained since January 2025.
