Mingyu was scouted by the staff of Pledis Entertainment because of his good looks. At that time, he was on his way home from school and was invited to audition.

The Pledis Entertainment staff didn't even ask Mingyu to prepare anything. The SEVENTEEN member then came to the audition wearing jeans and flip-flops.

2. Joining the Hip Hop Unit

As we know, SEVENTEEN itself has 3 sub-units; hip-hop unit, vocal unit, and performance unit. Mingyu joined the hip-hop unit together with S.coups, Wonwoo, and Vernon.

Mingyu of SEVENTEEN is part of the Kakao Talk group chat with several KPop idols born in 1997. In the '97 liner' group, there are Jungkook of BTS, Cha Eun Woo, BamBam and Yugyeom of GOT7, Jaehyun of NCT, and his colleagues DK and The8 of SEVENTEEN.

Cha Eun Woo joined in 2019 when Mingyu had dinner with Jungkook and Yugyeom. Mingyu then showed his support for the ASTRO member by sending a coffee truck to the filming location of the Korean drama Rookie Historian Go Hae Ryung.
