After almost three decades, Green Day finally returned to Jakarta with the concert titled Green Day Live in Jakarta held at Carnaval Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday (15/2/2025).

This legendary American punk rock band performed with full energy, bringing nostalgia to their fans. From start to finish, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool successfully made thousands of audience members sing and jump together. Here are the details.

The concert started at 8:00 PM WIB with the song "The American Dream Is Killing Me." Billie Joe immediately invited the audience to go wild and jump together. “I want everyone to jump, everyone, from the front to the back,” he said from the stage.

Without much pause, the song "Welcome to Paradise" was played immediately. In this song, the vocalist asked the audience to enjoy the concert without recording it with their phones. "No one should record, it's not needed right now," he said.

Classic Green Day songs like "Basket Case" and "She" successfully stirred up euphoria in the concert area. At 20:16 WIB, Billie Joe greeted the audience and invited them to reminisce. "Okay, do you want to hear an old song? This song is called Paper Lanterns," he said before playing the song.

An interesting moment occurred when Green Day performed "Know Your Enemy." Billie Joe asked an audience member to come up on stage. The choice fell on a woman wearing a hijab who enthusiastically sang along. The warmth was even more palpable as songs like "Forever Now," "21 Guns," and "Minority" were played. Billie Joe even expressed his gratitude to Jakarta. "Wow. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jakarta," he said after playing the harmonica in the song "Minority."

The concert continued with other hit songs like "Brain Stew", "American Idiot", and "Holiday". During the song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", the stage went dark and was only illuminated by the audience's phone lights that Billie Joe requested to be turned on.

One of the most special moments was when Billie Joe draped the Red and White flag while performing the medley "Are We the Waiting / St. Jimmy". The atmosphere became even more memorable when he changed the lyrics of the song "Give Me Novacaine" to, "Indonesia says it's better than here" and "So give me Jakarta". Towards the end of the concert, Billie Joe interacted with the audience again. "Jakarta! Let me hear your screams!" he shouted before performing "Letterbomb".

In the song "Wake Me Up When September Ends", the entire audience sang along from start to finish. To close the concert, Green Day played the song "Bobby Sox" and Billie Joe reminisced about the last time they came to Jakarta 29 years ago. "It’s been a long time since we came here 29 years ago," he said.

As an encore, Billie Joe played "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" with an acoustic guitar. The audience, who already knew the song by heart, immediately joined in singing as the intro played. The concert was closed with a fireworks display lighting up the sky of Carnaval Ancol.
