Bringing Nostalgia, Base Jam Makes a Comeback with New Formation and Single 'Salah Suka'

Kapanlagi.com - The name Base Jam is definitely familiar to the 90s generation. This Jakarta-based band was known for having a series of viral hit singles in their era, such as one of them Bukan Pujangga. Now, since 2021, Base Jam has joined VMC Music label to navigate the music industry in the homeland.

And today, Friday (3/9), the band, led by Sigit Wardana (Vocals), Alvin Kurniawan (Vocals), Ardi Isnandar (Guitar), Oni Fathoni (Guitar), Ardhini Citrasari (Bass), and Jeane Phialsa (Drums), introduces their latest single titled Salah Suka. This is Base Jam's first work under VMC Music label.

Salah Suka itself is not actually a 'new' song, as it was written by Oni, the guitarist, back in 2009. However, at that time, the song was not seriously developed and was only reworked in 2019 with the current lineup members. According to Oni, the songwriter, Salah Suka has now been perfected, both in terms of arrangement and lyrics.

"Salah Suka is an upbeat pop song with Base Jam-style love lyrics. This song tells the story of someone going through the process of approaching the person they like, but it turns out that person already has a partner. This song contains humor and jokes about the process of having a crush or approaching someone. Sometimes we like someone or are curious about them, but we don't know their story. So even though we feel confident to approach them, it turns out that someone is already waiting for them, their real partner. So we feel embarrassed and it turns out we are mistaken about our feelings," explained Sita about the lyrics of the song Salah Suka in a press release received by KapanLagi.com.

As one of the senior bands, Base Jam is ready to compete with other musicians in the Indonesian music industry. Especially now that Sigit CS is present with a new formation that is solid and complements each other.

"Although we all have our own busy schedules, Base Jam is still our top priority and the place where we create," Sigit continued about the current formation of Base Jam.

Alsa, the drummer, added information about the current music scene in Indonesia, which he thinks has expanded a lot. "The music scene in Indonesia has expanded a lot. Musicians are freer to create because each genre has its own market share. The challenge for musicians today is actually in their music-preneurship, like Base Jam, who continue to explore music while still maintaining the Base Jam style."

Base Jam has also released a video clip for Salah Suka through the Base Jam Official Youtube channel. The video is made in an animated format with an eye-catching color tone. In fact, the video is released in 4K format!

Salah Suka single marks a turning point for Base Jam to revive the music industry in the country through their works. After Salah Suka, Base Jam also plans to release a new album soon and even hold a concert for their fans.
