Kapanlagi.com - After the Joyland Festival press conference, musician Cholil Mahmud answered questions from Kapanlagi.com reporters. One interesting question posed made the vocalist of Efek Rumah Kaca think for a moment. The Kapanlagi.com reporter asked which Indonesian bands Cholil believes should not disband.
"Mas Cholil, name five Indonesian bands that shouldn't disband," asked the Kapanlagi.com reporter.
Cholil immediately reacted, "Oh, is it okay if they have already disbanded? Or should they not?" Cholil said to the Kapanlagi.com reporter.
The Kapanlagi.com reporter then clarified that the bands must still be active. After thinking for a moment, Cholil mentioned five bands that he believes should not disappear from the music industry in the homeland. Here are Cholil's answers!
SERINGAI (credit: instagram.com/seringai_official)
The first band mentioned is Seringai. Seringai is a metal band from Jakarta that has been active since 2002. Currently, their lineup consists of Arian (vocals), Ricky Siahaan (guitar), Edy Khemod (drums), and Sammy Bramantyo (bass).
With more than 20 years of work, Seringai has released several albums, including HIGH OCTANE ROCK (2004), SERIGALA MILITIA (2007), TARING (2012), and SEPERTI API (2018). On November 30, 2024, they will hold a solo concert titled "Serigala Militia Selamanya" at the Hockey Field, Plaza Festival, South Jakarta.
White Shoes & The Couples (credit: instagram.com/wsatcc)
The second band chosen by Cholil is White Shoes & The Couples Company. The group, consisting of Ricky Surya Virgana, Yusmario Farabi, John Navid, Aprilia Apsari, Apri Mela Prawidiyanti, and Saleh Husein, has released several albums, such as WHITE SHOES & THE COUPLES COMPANY (2005), VAKANSI (2010), SKENARIO MASA MUDA (2007), and MENYANYIKAN LAGU2 DAERAH (2013). White Shoes & The Couples Company is also one of the most anticipated bands to perform at the Joyland Festival 2024 at the GBK Basketball Stadium, Central Jakarta.
Jirapah (credit: instagram.com/jirapahmusic)
Cholil then mentioned Jirapah as the third choice. This band, founded in the United States, now consists of Ken Jenie (vocals & guitar), Mar Galo (bass), Nico Ghozali (drums), and Yudhistira (guitar). The band is well-known among indie music lovers for their works, including the EP THANK YOU, as well as the albums Digital 7 Vol. 1, Digital 7 Vol. 2, and Digital 7 Vol. 4. Their first full album, PLANETARIUM, was released in 2019.
Sigmun (credit: instagram.com/sigmun_)
Cholil's fourth choice fell on Sigmun. This band had been on hiatus but returned to activity in 2023 with the lineup of Haikal Azizi (vocals, guitar) and Mirfak Prabowo (vocals, bass). They made their comeback in the music industry by releasing their latest single titled Mazahare. Last July, Sigmun also released a music video for the song Great Devourer, marking the launch of their latest EP, MALADIES.
The S.I.G.I.T. (credit: instagram.com/thesigit_)
In fifth place, Cholil chose The S.I.G.I.T.. This rock band from Bandung is known for frequently performing on international stages. In 2004, they released their mini album The S.I.G.I.T, and since then, their name has become more recognized, especially in Bandung and Jakarta. Their song, Soul Sister, quickly found a place in the hearts of rock fans.
In 2005, they were featured in the international magazine NME Stereo, with the song Black Amplifier receiving many positive reviews. The S.I.G.I.T also toured with the Australian band Dallas Crane. After that, they signed a contract with a label in Australia and released their debut album, VISIBLE IDEA OF PERFECTION.
Recently, The S.I.G.I.T has been in the spotlight because their drummer, Donar Armando Ekana alias Acil, was reported to have left the band. Currently, the band's lineup consists of Rektivianto Yoewono (vocals/guitar), Farri Icksan (guitar/synthesizer), Aghan Sudrajat (bass), Acil (drums), and Absar Lebeh (guitar).
According to KLovers, which Indonesian band should not break up? Keep supporting Indonesian music, if not now, when else?
