Mikha Tambayong Started Searching for a New Song, Ended Up Inviting Rayi Putra to Duet on 'Jalan Tengah'

Kapanlagi.com - The collaboration between Mikha Tambayong and Rayi Putra on the song Jalan Tengah actually started from the process of searching for material for Mikha's latest single. Initially, the song was not planned as a duet project. However, after listening to the demo version, Mikha felt that the song would be stronger if performed together with Rayi.

Mikha revealed that she initially contacted the RAW Music team to look for several songs that could be considered for her next work. Among the materials she received, Jalan Tengah became the most attention-grabbing song.

"I actually approached RAW Music first to ask if there were any songs that I could choose for my next single. Then one of them was 'Jalan Tengah', and this is the one we ultimately chose," said Mikha Tambayong when met at the MyMusic Records office in South Jakarta on Friday (17/7/2026).

1. Interested in the Demo Version

While listening to the demo version, Mikha realized that Rayi Putra's voice was already heard in it. From there, the idea emerged to make Jalan Tengah a duet song.

"After thinking about it, it seems fun if we just duet this song with Kak Rayi as well, because coincidentally, his voice is also in the demo. So when I listened to it, 'Wow, this actually sounds good if a girl and a guy sing this song,' and I approached Kak Rayi and it turns out he agreed," continued Mikha.

Rayi Putra confirmed that the collaboration idea came from Mikha. Initially, he was only involved as one of the songwriters along with Ankadiov and Wizzy from RAW Music.

"As for the collaboration selection, it was actually Mikha who invited me to collaborate. That's right, yes... when I was invited to write a song for Mikha and even duet with Mikha, it was an opportunity that I wouldn't waste," Rayi revealed.

For Mikha, the decision to choose 'Jalan Tengah' is not solely because of its lyrics. She admits that she usually pays more attention to the melody, chord progression, and the vibe of the music before delving into the song's content.

"Actually, when I listen to a song, I tend to focus on the melody first. The melody, then the chord progression, the vibe of the song... And 'Jalan Tengah' feels like a perfect combo. When I heard the music from just the intro, I liked it a lot already," Mikha explained.

The collaboration then continued into the recording process and shooting the music video. According to Rayi, the entire production process was enjoyable and full of positive energy.

3. Praising Mikha's Way of Feeling the Song

He also praised Mikha's way of feeling the song while singing. As an actress, Mikha is considered capable of conveying emotions not only through her voice but also through her body language.

"I really like watching Mikha when she sings; she is very expressive while singing. Maybe because she is also an actress, so when she sings, it's not just her mouth and voice, but her body also sings along, which might make the sound even better," said Rayi Putra.
