Touching Fans Who Want to Release Their Own Song First Using AI, Jesenn: I Read It and Felt Sad

Through a series of his uploads on TikTok, Jesenn shared the emotional journey behind the creation of the song—including a surprising incident when a fan wanted to release his song first using AI technology.

Initially, Jesenn casually uploaded a cover of the soundtrack song from the movie Jumbo on TikTok. Unexpectedly, the cover video went viral with 1.6 million viewers.

"My little brother told me to listen to the song Jumbo. I covered it in the kitchen, so to speak," Jesenn said when met in South Jakarta on Sunday (4/5).

"The song is really nice. I uploaded it, and suddenly it took off. It reached 1.6M. That's quite a lot, wow that's crazy," he continued.

The popularity of the video made Jesenn experiment again with a cover of the same song, even watching the movie to understand the context of the song. From there, he remembered a draft of a personal song he had created since 2021.

"The story is indeed very personal to me. The song discusses what can be called my insecurity, my trust issues are more about inner child stuff," he said.

1. Unexpected

The song titled Hold the Control was finally uploaded to TikTok and attracted attention again. From there, Jesenn felt a breath of fresh air after years of creating without the results he hoped for.

"So far I've uploaded it, and it went up. It reached over 200 thousand views. I've been working since 2016 but haven't had my breakthrough yet. It feels like I've found my true color," he explained.

However, unexpectedly, the virality of the song led to an unpleasant incident. Jesenn found a comment from a fan who wanted to upload an AI version of his song to a digital platform.

"Eventually, I found one of the comments where he said, 'Bro, can I upload this song first? By replacing my vocals with AI.' Honestly, when I read it, I felt a bit sad. I mean, it feels like he’s stealing my work," he said.

2. Respect Copyright and the Creative Process of Musicians

Although the fans claimed they just wanted Jesenn to officially release the song soon, the musician felt the need to be firm. "I do not allow that song to be uploaded. Because I wrote it. I created it with my heart and my life as well," he asserted.

He also emphasized that the entire creative process and marketing strategy have been thoroughly considered. Jesenn appreciated the apology from the fans. However, he reminded them of the importance of respecting copyright and a musician's creative process.

"So I informed him that I do not allow any form of piracy of my work. In the end, so far he has apologized," he concluded.
