1. Prayer for Self-Healing

In a narration, it is explained that one of Allah's prophets, Prophet Ayyub AS, was also afflicted with calamity and trial in the form of a disease by Allah SWT. Prophet Ayyub AS was tested by Allah SWT and suffered from an incurable disease for years. He was even isolated and alienated by others because of the disease.

However, Prophet Ayyub never had ill thoughts towards Allah SWT and always prayed for healing from the disease he suffered. And that prayer is mentioned in the Quran, Surah Al-Anbiyaa verse 83. The following is the recitation of the verse:

"Robbi annii massaniyadh dhurru wa anta arhamar roohimiin."

Meaning: O my Lord, indeed adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

"Syafakallahu saqamaka, wa ghafara dzanbaka, wa 'afaka fi dinika wa jismika ila muddati ajalika."

Meaning: O (mention the name of the sick person), may Allah heal you, forgive your sins, and bless you in terms of religion and physical health throughout your life.

3. Prayer for Healing for Others

Yes, besides visiting someone who is sick, the Prophet Muhammad also taught us to pray for the healing of the sick person. When the Prophet Muhammad visited his sick companion, he always recited a prayer for the healing of others.

Here is one of the prayers for the healing of others recited by the Prophet Muhammad. As narrated in Bukhari and Muslim from Aisha RA:

"Allahumma rabban nasi, adzhibil ba'sa. Isyfi. Antas syafi. La syafiya illa anta syifa'an la yughadiru saqaman."

Meaning: My Lord, Lord of mankind, remove the affliction. Grant healing because You are the Healer. There is no healer except You, and healing does not leave any pain.

In addition, there is also a prayer recited by the Prophet Muhammad when performing ruqyah on one of his companions. Ruqyah is a healing process through verses of the Quran. And here is the recitation of the verse from the Quran:

"Imsahil ba'sa rabban nasi. Bi yadikas syifa'u. La kasyifa lahu illa anta."

Meaning: Lord of mankind, wipe away this illness. In Your hands lies the cure. No one can lift it except You.

4. Reading Al-Fatihah

And the last healing prayer is by reading Al-Fatihah. Al-Fatihah is the opening surah in the Quran. In fact, Al-Fatihah is also a mandatory surah to be read during the 5 daily prayers and voluntary prayers. Reading Al-Fatihah turns out to be one of the prayers for healing.

This Surah Al-Fatihah is called asy-syifa. Based on the hadith narrated by Ad Darimi from Abu Sa'id, as a marfu' hadith, it contains an explanation of Al-Fatihah as asy-syifa: Fatihatul Kitab is a medicine (healer) for every poison. Al-Fatihah is good to be used as a prayer for healing.

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray."

Meaning: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Whoever controls the Day of Retribution. Only You we worship, and only You we ask for help. Show us the straight path, the path of those whom You have bestowed favor upon, not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor the path of those who have gone astray.
