After the live action adaptation of ONE PIECE, Netflix will release another work by Eiichiro Oda which is adapted from a one-shot manga titled MONSTERS. This manga that will be adapted by Netflix will tell the story of the past of the strongest swordsman in ONE PIECE, Shimotsuki Ryuma. Ryuma was once known as the "Sword God" and had killed a dragon with just one strike, and this story is told in the manga.

Ryuma appeared in ONE PIECE in the Thriller Bark arc in the form of a skeleton. With the power of the Devil Fruit, Gecko Moria brought Ryuma's corpse back to life and wielded his legendary sword, Shusui. In battle, Ryuma was defeated by Zoro and the sword Shusui fell into Zoro's hands before eventually being returned to the Wano Country.

This manga adaptation will be produced by E&H Productions and directed by Sunghoo Park, who has previously directed the film JUJUTSU KAISEN 0. On Friday (12/15/2023), through X (Twitter), Netflix Anime released the anime poster with the title MONSTERS: 103 MERCIES DRAGON DAMNATION which will be released in January 2024. Ryuma, a samurai, lives in a world threatened by the presence of dragons that can cause great destruction. With strong determination, Ryuma embarks on a journey to defeat the dragon, facing various obstacles and challenges along the way.

2. Character Visual

The character visuals in this anime are not much different from ONE PIECE, with one character resembling Dracule Mihawk. Ryuma himself, the samurai, has a visual that reminds viewers of Roronoa Zoro.

In addition to Ryuma as the main character, there is also Flare, a female character in this anime who works as a waitress. Then there is an antagonist named D.R. who conspires with Cyrano, the swordsman expert.

In addition to being directed by Sanghoo Park, this anime also appointed a character designer who is also present in the anime ONE PIECE, namely Takashi Kojima. Then the color design was done by Ryoji Nagasawa, while Fuinao Akai was responsible for Art Direction. Photography was handled by Lee Ju-Mi, while Hiroaki Tsutsumi worked on Music, with Akiko Fujita serving as Sound Director.
