At the Age of 93, Family Cannot Bear to Let Supiyah go to the Holy Land Without Family Companionship

Kapanlagi.com - Supiyah (93) actually had the opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The entire cost of the Hajj Journey (BPIH) had already been fully paid before the deadline.

Even the KBIH (Hajj Guidance Group) had sent her hajj equipment some time ago. However, Supiyah and her family then decided not to go for several reasons.

"Sak karepe (whatever), wis, yo pengin (want) sakjane (actually)," said Supiyah when met at her home, Jalan Kyai Perseh Jaya 38 Bumiayu, Kedungkandang District, Malang City, on Tuesday (23/5).

1. Registered since 2017

Supiyah registered for the Hajj on March 29, 2017, and based on her age, she was among the pilgrims who were given priority to go to the holy land. At that time, her grandson, Ahmad Fathoni, also registered with the consideration of being a companion. Then, it was stipulated that the companion had to be her child, so Supiyah's daughter and son-in-law, Suryati (60) and Abdul Hayyi (72), finally registered as well.

However, in the 2023 Hajj season, only Supiyah received the call to go on the pilgrimage. Therefore, the family then considered Supiyah's departure, if it was without family companionship.

"After thinking about it, we might have trouble there. So, we decided not to go," said Abdul Hayyi, Supiyah's son-in-law.

2. Cannot Bear to See Her Go Alone

Meanwhile, Suryati, Supiyah's daughter, admitted that she couldn't bear it if her mother had to go alone. Especially since Suryati has been living with and understanding her mother's habits.

"If accompanying someone else, I don't feel comfortable. Maybe it's okay for tawaf, but for daily activities like going to the bathroom or relieving oneself, it doesn't feel right if it's not a family member," she explained.

3. Feeling Sympathetic

Suryati also feels sorry for the accompanying officers who have to take care of her mother. Especially when it comes to personal tasks like cleaning or relieving oneself.

"If it's normal daily activities, she can slowly do it herself. But sometimes she's a bit forgetful," she explained.

"It's not fair to the officers if it's not her child doing it," she firmly stated.

4. Wants to Accompany Her Mother

Therefore, Suryati still hopes to accompany her mother when performing the Hajj, even if not this year. That's why Suryati also refuses to go if not with her mother. Suryati still believes that next year she can perform the fifth pillar of Islam with her mother.

"It's just not the right time yet," she firmly stated.
