Chronology of the Viral Case of EIGER's Objection Letter to a Youtuber, Resulting in an Apology Request

In fact, today, Thursday (28/1) night, the name Eiger topped the trending topic in Indonesia. All this commotion started from a tweet from an account named @duniadian.

The story goes, the account owner named Dian Widiyanarko is a Youtuber who often creates review content about various products. Well, in one of his videos, Dian reviewed Eiger's sunglasses. Dian's review itself tends to be positive, with no intention of bringing it down at all.

Interestingly, Dian received a 'love letter' from Eiger. The letter stated Eiger's objection to the video review made by Dian on his Youtube channel. The problem is, the points mentioned in the letter tend to be demeaning.

1. Content of the Viral Warning Letter from Eiger

Here is the content of the letter from Eiger to Dian:

Dear Sir/Madam,

First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to you for uploading a video review of our product through your YouTube channel. We, PT.Eigerindo Multi Produk Industri as the distributor of EIGER products, would like to express our objections to the video that you uploaded through your YouTube channel with the title 'REVIEW Kacamata EIGER Kerato | Cocok Jadi Kacamata Sepeda'. The objections that we would like to convey are as follows:

1. The quality of the product review video is not good in terms of video recording, which can make our products appear different in terms of color, material, and accessory details, making them less clear.

2. There is background noise in the main video that can disrupt the clarity of information for consumers.

3. The location setting for the video recording is not appropriate," wrote Eiger in their letter.

Based on these objections, we hope that you can improve and/or remove the content of our product review that you uploaded on your YouTube channel. This is our objection letter. We hope that you can become a better YouTuber in reviewing videos.

2. Dian Widiyanarko's Confession

Upon receiving the 'love letter', Dian was shocked, annoyed, and angry. She then shared her story on her Instagram and Twitter accounts, which ended up going viral.

"Hello @eigeradventure, I was honestly shocked to receive this letter from you. I was even more shocked when I read the points of criticism. I reviewed your product without any endorsement from you. If you endorse or advertise, then you can complain like that. But this was a purchase, not free, and I reviewed it using my own equipment. I apologize if it's not perfect because I'm just a small-time YouTuber, not a five-star celebrity with cinematic equipment. In fact, you should be grateful for the free promotion to my 37 thousand subscribers. The video had a positive tone," Dian wrote in the caption of her Instagram post.

"This is really bad PR. FYI, I've been a loyal EIGER customer for a long time. But alright, if you have objections, I accept them and I apologize. But I can't fulfill your request to delete it, sorry. Starting today, I will no longer buy your products and will not review them on my channel anymore. Let only five-star YouTubers with sophisticated equipment review your products," she concluded emotionally.

3. Utilized by the Neighboring Neighbor

Knowing the viral love letter story of EIGER, several competing brands in the same field did not stay silent. They took advantage of this opportunity to promote their products with a very poignant satire, as done by Arei.

By this, we, Arei Outdoorgear and management, declare that all members of the community, both users and non-users, both customers and non-customers, both concerned and not concerned, have the RIGHT to review our products in any way they like:

1. As they please, in any way
2. With any camera

4. With any location, we sincerely accept.

4. Apology from EIGER

Knowing that this case has gone viral and his reputation is at stake, EIGER didn't waste any time to stay silent. Not long ago, they released a clarification letter and an official apology to the entire community, especially Dian.

On behalf of the company PT Eigerindo Multi Produk Industri (MPI), as the company that oversees the EIGER Adventure brand, we humbly apologize to the public for the issue that occurred.

Regarding this matter, there are a few things we would like to convey:

1. The letter uploaded through the Twitter account @duniadian was indeed sent by our internal team.
2. We acknowledge that what we did was inappropriate and wrong. Our initial intention and purpose were to provide feedback to the reviewer to improve. However, we realize that our way of conveying it was wrong.

Thus, we present this letter. Once again, with utmost humility, we sincerely apologize for our mistakes. We are deeply grateful to Eigerians who have made great efforts to take the time and energy to create content related to EIGER. Thank you very much. May God always bless our good intentions.
