Kapanlagi.com - Sandi Butar Butar, a firefighter in Depok City, West Java, has come under the spotlight again after he erupted in anger due to malfunctioning firefighting equipment. Sandi felt disappointed because the fire extinguisher failed to operate while he was trying to put out a fire at a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) depot and a water refill agency.
Due to the equipment failure, the fire could not be extinguished promptly, resulting in four residents at the location suffering burns.
This incident occurred on Wednesday, November 7, 2024, in the Tirta Mandala Housing Complex, Cilodong, Depok City. Sandi's anger then went viral on social media, including through a post on the TikTok account @depokseru.
In the circulated video, Sandi can be heard reprimanding the Head of the Depok Fire Department, Adnan Wahyudin, with a stern statement, "For Mr. Head of Department Adnan Wahyudin, we have just returned from the fire scene in Tirta Mandala Sukmajaya, there are 4 people with burns, sir, who is responsible? You said at the prosecutor's office that this unit has been fixed, what is the fact, sir!"
This is not the first time Sandi has expressed his disappointment. Previously, a similar incident occurred when a fire struck a church in Depok. In 2021, Sandi also exposed a corruption case within the Depok Fire Department through a protest action at the Depok City Hall.
Deputy Mayor of Depok, Imam Budi Hartono, stated that Sandi and his colleagues' actions in criticizing the problematic fire equipment were deemed inappropriate, and his side plans to guide Sandi regarding his actions and statements.
