Determination of 1 Ramadan 1447 H Session, Start of Fasting on February 19, 2026

Kapanlagi.com - The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia held a Determination Session for the start of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah on Tuesday afternoon, February 17, 2026, at the Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta. This session is an important agenda that is always awaited by Muslims in Indonesia to officially know when the Ramadan fasting begins.

The isbat session will be directly led by the Minister of Religious Affairs and attended by various related parties, including representatives from Islamic community organizations, astronomy experts, falak specialists, and representatives from government agencies. As in previous years, the isbat session will be conducted privately before the results are announced to the public.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs will communicate the official decision to the public through a press conference that 1 Ramadan 1447 H or the start of fasting falls on February 19, 2026.

The Isbat session for determining the start of Ramadan 2026 this year includes several stages, consisting of:

• An open seminar regarding the position of the hilal at 16:30 WIB to present astronomical data and calculation results.
• The implementation of the isbat session in a closed setting at 18:30 WIB.
• Official announcement of the decision through a press conference at around 19:05 WIB.

2. Method for Determining the Start of Ramadan 2026

The determination of the start of Ramadan is carried out by combining two methods, namely hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyatul hilal (direct observation of the crescent moon).

• Astronomical hisab, scientific calculation of the position of the hilal (crescent moon);
• Rukyatul hilal, results of direct observations of the hilal from several points across Indonesia.

Hisab data will be presented first as the basis for calculating the position of the hilal, then confirmed with the results of rukyat conducted at various observation points throughout Indonesia.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has prepared dozens of rukyatul hilal locations spread from the western to the eastern regions of Indonesia. The observation results from each point will be reported and considered in the isbat session before a final decision is made.

3. The Ministry of Religion Announces the Start of Ramadan Fasting 2026

After the meeting concluded, the government through the Ministry of Religion announced the official decision to the public via a press conference that the start of Ramadan or 1 Ramadan 1447 H is set on

"Based on the results of the calculation and the non-visibility of the crescent moon, it was agreed that 1 Ramadan 1447 H falls on Thursday, February 19, 2026. This is the result of the isbat meeting," said Nasaruddin Umar as the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia.

This announcement will serve as a national reference for Muslims in starting the fasting worship of Ramadan 1447 H. After this announcement, Muslims are invited to perform the tarawih prayers after the Isya' prayer.

4. Ramadan Worship Simultaneously

The isbat meeting not only serves to determine the start of Ramadan but also symbolizes the togetherness and unity of Muslims in Indonesia in performing worship simultaneously, despite differences in methods of determining the Hijri calendar within the community.
