Indonesia Ranks Among the Top 5 Countries with the Largest Decrease in COVID-19 Cases, Do Not Relax Health Protocols

This achievement has become a motivation to continue maintaining health protocols and adhering to the regulations for the Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru), so that COVID-19 cases can continue to be suppressed. This was confirmed by the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate.

"Indonesia has successfully entered the list of five countries with a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases and has been able to maintain it for a considerable period of time. We are alongside four other countries, namely India, the Philippines, Iran, and Japan," said the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, on Saturday (27/11/2021).

Indonesia has been able to reduce cases by 99.3 percent from the peak of the surge and has been able to maintain it for 130 days. Currently, the number of cases in Indonesia is 2,564, much lower than the lowest point before the surge in cases occurred, which was 26,126 cases.

"The World Health Organization (WHO) has also designated Indonesia as a green country with a low transmission rate of less than 2 percent," added Johnny.

According to him, this situation is a good achievement for Indonesia. The results of the cooperation of all parties working hard to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission through various efforts. "Every individual's efforts, no matter how simple, contribute to the decrease in cases and prevent transmission. Along with the reopening of activities, collective awareness and self-control efforts of the community in handling the pandemic must be strengthened," said the Minister of Communication and Information.

Proof of Pandemic Control Success

The Minister of Communication and Information also stated that this success proves that the pandemic control policies in Indonesia have been appropriate. Namely by implementing PPKM, 3T (testing, tracing, treatment), accelerating vaccination, and disciplined adherence to health protocols.

"Let us make this success as motivation, but let us not become complacent. Moreover, we will soon enter the long Christmas and New Year holiday period which has the potential to trigger an increase in mobility. Without strict health protocols, there is a high risk of a surge in cases," he added.

Therefore, Johnny said, the government has established regulations to regulate community activities during the Nataru period and continuously socialize them to the public, such as reducing holiday periods and issuing a ban on taking leave during the Nataru period.

"We need the support of the community so that the implementation of these policies can have an optimal effect. Let us together protect Indonesia by remaining disciplined in health protocols and obeying Nataru regulations so that we do not enter the third wave like in Europe," Johnny concluded.
