Is Lailatul Qadar Only for Those Who Perform I'tikaf in the Mosque? Check Out the Explanation Below

However, the frequently asked question is whether Lailatul Qadar is only for those who perform i'tikaf in the mosque? Do those who worship from home also have the opportunity to receive the blessings of this night?

1. When is the Night of Lailatul Qadar Coming

As mentioned earlier, Lailatul Qadar is a special night. The uniqueness of the night of Lailatul Qadar is said to exceed a thousand months. On that night, Muslims are encouraged to perform various worship, to get closer to Allah SWT in order to obtain the glory of Lailatul Qadar.

It is not known exactly when the night of Lailatul Qadar will come. However, in one hadith it is mentioned that the night of Lailatul Qadar will fall on one of the days in the last 10 days of Ramadan, on odd dates. The hadith states

"Seek Lailatul Qadar on the odd-numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan." (HR. Bukhari).

In another hadith, the Prophet Muhammad SAW also explained the criteria for a Muslim to obtain the glory of Lailatul Qadar. In the hadith, it is mentioned that a Muslim must enliven the night of Lailatul Qadar with worship, getting closer to Allah SWT.

In the hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, Aisha RA conveyed, "The Prophet SAW performed i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah SWT took his soul". In another hadith narrated by Bukhari, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "Whoever enlivens the night of Lailatul Qadar with faith and expecting rewards, surely Allah will forgive his past sins".

The above hadith also explains that i'tikaf is a highly recommended practice to obtain the Night of Lailatul Qadar. In the Muslim community, it has become a tradition. This raises many questions, whether the Night of Lailatul Qadar is only for those who perform i'tikaf in the mosque?

No explanation was found regarding the Night of Lailatul Qadar specifically for those who perform i'tikaf. Based on this fact, many believe that it does not mean only those who perform i'tikaf in the mosque have the opportunity to receive the blessings of the Night of Lailatul Qadar.

This view is also affirmed by Ustaz Adi Hidayat in one of his lectures on his Youtube channel, Adi Hidayat Official, in the series 'Amalan Malam Al Qadr'. In one of his lectures, he explained as follows:

"The requirement to obtain blessings is not limited to being in the mosque. It is more about how to enliven the night and create an atmosphere that we maximize to worship Allah SWT," explained Ustaz Adi Hidayat.

Meaning, the blessings of the Night of Lailatul Qadar can be achieved by every Muslim who sincerely worships and seeks the pleasure of Allah SWT. There is no requirement that someone must perform i'tikaf in the mosque to experience the blessings of this night.

3. Recommendations for Worship to Obtain Laylat al-Qadr

I'tikaf may indeed have become synonymous with Laylat al-Qadr. I'tikaf can also be a form of worship that shows the sincerity and earnestness of a Muslim in seeking Laylat al-Qadr. However, it should be noted that I'tikaf is not the only worship that can be performed.

In addition to I'tikaf, Muslims can engage in other righteous deeds such as night prayers, recitation of the Quran, supplication, charity, and intensive remembrance of Allah at home or elsewhere. The most important thing is the intention, sincerity, and earnestness in performing this worship to attain the blessings of Laylat al-Qadr.
