Probowangi Toll 2025: Free Tariff, When Will It Open?

The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) has revealed that this 23.13-kilometer toll road will be functionally opened to support smooth traffic. This policy will take effect from March 24 to April 8, 2025, with a free tariff during that period.

The implementation of this functional toll is expected to provide convenience for travelers, especially small vehicles (non-bus), in reducing their travel time. In addition, the operation of this toll road also aims to reduce congestion on the arterial route that was previously the only main access between Probolinggo and Banyuwangi.

However, despite its functional status, the Probowangi Toll still has ongoing construction progress. PT Jasa Marga, through its subsidiary PT Jasamarga Probolinggo Banyuwangi (PT JPB), reported that the first phase of the toll's construction had reached approximately 73.53% as of last February. Thus, although only part of it can be used, the presence of this toll is believed to positively impact the smooth flow of homecoming later.

1. Probowangi Toll: Special Functional for Homecoming 2025

During Eid 2025, the Probowangi Toll will be opened functionally to help smooth the homecoming flow. The BPJT has confirmed that this toll road will operate from March 24 to March 31, 2025, specifically for the homecoming flow. The Probowangi Toll will function in one direction, connecting the toll gates from (GT) Kraksaan and Paiton, heading towards Banyuwangi. This facility is expected to alleviate congestion on the arterial routes that have often been crowded.

During the return flow period, the Probowangi Toll will also be opened from April 1 to April 8, 2025, with the opposite direction heading back to Kraksaan and Paiton. Thus, travelers can cross this toll road more easily and smoothly, without getting stuck in the traffic jams that often occur on traditional routes.

Although its status is still functional, only small vehicles, such as private cars and motorcycles, are allowed to pass through. This is done to maintain traffic flow and avoid greater congestion on the toll road.

2. Probowangi Toll Rates: Free for Travelers

The Probowangi toll will be opened with no charge during this functional period. As part of the efforts to support the smooth flow of homecoming and return traffic, BPJT provides convenience for travelers by not imposing toll fees on this road section. Although the toll is still under construction and only partially opened, this free toll policy will be in effect from March 24 to April 8, 2025.

According to the announcement from BPJT, although this toll is still in functional status, travelers can take advantage of this toll road without worrying about costs. This is certainly very helpful in reducing travel expenses, especially for those using land routes for their homecoming.

However, it should be noted that although it is free, the operation of this toll is time-limited, being available only for small vehicles during operational hours from 06:00 to 16:00 WIB. This policy is expected to maximize the capacity of the toll road during the peak homecoming and return periods.

3. Progress of Probowangi Toll Road Construction

The Probowangi Toll Road is being constructed by PT Jasamarga Probolinggo Banyuwangi (PT JPB), with the progress of the first phase of construction reaching approximately 73.53% as of February 2025. Although this toll road is still under construction, the parties involved hope to operate a portion of the road for the 2025 homecoming season. It is expected that this development will improve accessibility between regions, especially between Probolinggo and Banyuwangi, which previously could only be accessed via arterial routes.

With the Probowangi Toll Road, travel time will be shorter. It is estimated that travel time between Probolinggo and Banyuwangi could be reduced by about 30 to 50%, which will certainly make the journey more efficient and fuel-saving. Another advantage is the reduction in logistics costs, which is expected to lower transportation expenses and enhance economic competitiveness in the area.

The construction of the Probowangi Toll Road also adopts advanced technology, such as the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for more efficient planning and design. In addition, geotechnical technologies such as the use of drones and 3D mapping are also applied for more accurate land surveys.
