The Future of Indonesian Fashion Retail Becomes the Inspiration Behind 'Nusantara Fashion Festival 2020'

Kapanlagi.com - The corona virus pandemic has affected many businesses. One of them is the local fashion retail industry which has managed to survive until now. This became the inspiration behind the Fashion Talks session at the Nusantara Fashion Festival (NUFF) 2020 event on Thursday (20/8) yesterday.

The event featured Pincky Sudarman (CEO of PT Alun Alun Indonesia Kreasi), Fetty Kwartati (President Director of PT Sarinah), and Anton Wirjono (Founder & CEO of The Goods Depth) as inspirational figures in the fashion retail industry.

1. Decrease in Sales Figures

Pincky Sudarman admitted that many customers are still hesitant to come to his store even though it has entered the new normal phase. Pincky has informed customers that they will be safe because Grand Indonesia has implemented health protocols, but until now there has been no increase in offline sales figures.

Nevertheless, they are still trying to develop strategies to ensure continuous sales. One of them is by relying on Alun Alun Indonesia restaurant, which sells typical Indonesian food.

2. Acceleration of Digitalization

Discussing this matter, Fetty Kwartati provides a strategy when she found out that Sarinah's retail sales were declining. She said that Sarinah quickly closed the store and transformed it by reviewing the business concept and rebranding to prioritize local products and SMEs.

This step is also supported by Anton Wirjono, who accelerated the digitalization process at The Goods Dept. Interestingly, this process proves that even though offline sales have declined, it can be compensated by a 3-fold increase in online sales.

3. Part of the NUFF 2020 event

This Fashion Talks is part of the NUFF 2020 event. The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and Bank BRI are organizing this event as a form of support for the National Movement Proud of Indonesian Products. This event will continue until August 31.
