Viral Corona Virus that Shakes the World, What is the Exact Cause?

This virus was first reported by the WHO to the Chinese National Health Commission on December 31, 2019, originating from the city of Wuhan, China. What is frightening is that at least 17 lives have been claimed so far due to the infection of the virus.

Based on the findings of Chinese scientists, the Corona virus has similarities with SARS and MERS. Both are known to be deadly, and can be transmitted from human to human.

Originating from Animals

The Corona virus is usually found in livestock, mammals such as rats and bats, and reptiles such as snakes. However, it can be transmitted to humans. According to the Chinese government, the preliminary suspicion of the virus spreading is due to the habit of Wuhan residents eating wild animals that happened to be infected with the virus, and sold at the Huanan Seafood Market.

This is supported by the findings of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which states that a number of initial patients infected with the virus with the scientific name Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were employees at the Huanan Market.

As is known, the Huanan Market sells various types of unique foods, such as wolf cubs, live foxes, crocodiles, giant salamanders, snakes, rats, peacocks, hedgehogs, camel meat, and civets. As a result of this case, reported by AFP, the people of Wuhan City are temporarily isolated to control its spread.

Symptoms of Corona Virus Infection

A person infected with the Corona virus will show several symptoms similar to pneumonia, both mild and severe. This is marked by the occurrence of fever with high body temperature, dry cough, and difficulty breathing. This is because the Corona virus attacks the respiratory organs, especially the lungs. When checked through an X-ray, the infected lung organs will appear swollen due to fluid filling.

Virus Spread Outside China

What's even more alarming is that this virus has spread to other countries. In China, there have been 544 confirmed cases, while in Thailand there have been 2 confirmed cases of the Corona virus. In addition, in Japan, South Korea, and the United States, there has been 1 confirmed case of the Corona virus in each country.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko has confirmed that the spread of the Corona virus from China has not reached Indonesia. This is based on the report received from Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto.

Treatment and Prevention

Unfortunately, there is currently no vaccine for the Corona virus, so researchers are still working hard to find a cure. However, according to the WHO, maintaining hand and respiratory hygiene is the key to prevention.

Even though the virus has not yet reached Indonesia, and hopefully it won't, it is advisable to start paying attention to the WHO's recommendations.
