The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that based on the officially published Hijri calendar, the prediction for the beginning of 1 Syawal 1446 Hijri or Eid al-Fitr 2025 falls on Monday, March 31, 2025, but the final decision will still wait for the isbat meeting.
The isbat meeting to determine the beginning of Syawal will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, starting at 16:30 WIB until just before Maghrib, and will be conducted privately at the Kemenag headquarters in Jakarta, attended by various stakeholders including Islamic organizations and astronomical experts.
In the process, Kemenag uses two methods, namely hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyat (hilal observation), with hilal observation conducted at 33 monitoring points throughout Indonesia, except for Bali which is currently observing Nyepi.
"We will hold the isbat meeting for the beginning of Syawal on March 29, 2025. As usual, the isbat meeting is always held on the 29th of Sha'ban to determine the beginning of Ramadan, the 29th of Ramadan to determine the beginning of Syawal, and the 29th of Zulqa'dah to determine the beginning of Zulhijjah," said the Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Abu Rokhmad, quoting kemenag.go.id.

On March 29, 2025, the conjunction of the moon (ijtima) occurs exactly at 17:57 WIB, but unfortunately, the position of the hilal in Indonesia is expected to still be below the horizon, which means the hilal is most likely not visible. As a result, the month of Ramadan will be completed to 30 days, ensuring that 1 Syawal falls on March 31, 2025.

Muhammadiyah announced that 1 Syawal 1446 H will fall on Monday, March 31, 2025. This announcement is based on the Circular of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah Number 1/MLM/I.0/E/2025, which was published earlier to provide certainty to the members of the organization. In determining this date, Muhammadiyah uses the method of hisab hakiki wujudul hilal, which is an astronomical approach. This method assesses the position of the moon at sunset, where the moon must be above the horizon, without the need for direct observation of the hilal.
On March 29, 2025, the position of the moon at sunset was known to be below the horizon, so the month of Ramadan continued for a full 30 days. Thus, Muhammadiyah establishes 1 Syawal on Monday, March 31, 2025. In its circular, it is explained that "The ijtimak before Syawal 1446 H occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 17:59:51 WIB. At sunset in Yogyakarta, the hilal was not visible as it was still below the horizon (-01 59' 04").
On March 29, 2025, the position of the moon at sunset was below the horizon, so the month of Ramadan was completed to 30 days, and 1 Syawal was established on Monday, March 31, 2025, by Muhammadiyah.

The government has set the holiday and joint leave period for Eid al-Fitr 2025 in the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers, which makes the total national holidays and joint leave reach 11 days from March 28 to April 7, 2025, including Nyepi holiday and weekends.
