However, the competition that has been held for decades this time had to claim a victim. A man named Mulyono lost his life during the pinang climbing contest in Dukuh Cikuning, Desa Terlaya, Kecamatan Bantarkawung, Brebes on Friday, August 16, 2024. Mulyono lost consciousness after being struck by his teammates who failed to climb the pinang tree. He was immediately rushed to RSU Allam Medica, Bumiayu. The next day, Mulyono was declared dead.
