Last week, Rumy Alqahtani caused a sensation after uploading this photo. She stated that she will participate in Miss Universe 2024 representing Saudi Arabia.

In her statement, Rumy mentioned that she was appointed by her country to represent them in the Miss Universe competition. Rumy's statement caused a sensation worldwide, as Saudi Arabia has never participated in beauty pageants before.

When Rumy uploaded her photo, netizens' reactions from around the world were varied. Many then criticized Saudi Arabia for sending a representative wearing revealing clothes.

One week after the commotion, Miss Universe organization has spoken out. Through their official website, Miss Universe denied that they conducted any selection process in Saudi Arabia.

"We firmly state that there was no selection process conducted in Saudi Arabia. And claims like being a representative of Saudi Arabia are false and misleading," wrote the official statement from Miss Universe.

"Although Saudi Arabia has not been fully confirmed to participate this year, we are currently undergoing a rigorous screening process to meet the requirements for potential candidates to obtain that right and assigning a national director to represent it," the statement continued.

Not only last week Rumy stated that she is the representative of Saudi Arabia. Until yesterday, she still uploaded a story that she will indeed compete in Miss Universe.

Until now, Rumy has not confirmed the denial from the Miss Universe organization that accused her of giving false and misleading claims.
