In addition to the moments spent with her extended family, Indonesian Idol alum, Citra Scholastika, always looks forward to her mother's special dishes during Christmas. These foods hold deep meaning and always bring sweet memories to every celebration.

"Mom always cooks a lot of food. One thing that I never forget and will definitely be there is rendang and mpek-mpek," Citra said when met at her home in the Ciputat area, South Tangerang, on Wednesday (25/12/2024). Here are the details.

However, there is one dish that Citra always looks forward to every Christmas, which is the 8 Hour Cake. This traditional cake, full of sweetness, is only made by her mother during special occasions like Christmas or family celebrations.

"Why is this special? First, it tastes really sweet. If Western food calls it egg custard. Well, in Indonesia, we have Kue 8 Jam. It really tastes delicious and soft," said Citra enthusiastically.

According to Citra, Kue 8 Jam requires a process of making that is not easy. This dish is cooked for a full eight hours with extra attention, making it a symbol of the mother's sincere love.

"The cooking process is really quite exhausting. For 8 hours, I have to keep checking back and forth. So, I really feel my mom's love through this dessert," she proudly revealed.

Although she loves the cake very much, Citra admitted that this dish is rarely made outside of Christmas moments. Usually, her mother only makes Kue 8 Jam for certain occasions like birthdays or family celebrations.

"Usually, if it's a birthday or a family event. Our family often celebrates something, whether it's a birth, a birthday, or just gathering because we miss each other," added the 30-year-old woman.

In addition to enjoying special dishes, Christmas for Citra is also synonymous with the tradition of exchanging gifts with beloved family. She admitted to always preparing many gifts to give to family members, especially her nieces and nephews.

"But sometimes the older nieces and nephews just ask for the raw ones. So, well, I just give them the raw ones," she said with a light laugh.

For Citra, this year's Christmas has a very deep meaning. Amid her busy schedule as a singer, she still feels the blessings and joy that she rarely finds throughout the year.
