Former Indonesian women's volleyball athlete, Aprilia Santi Manganang, today, Friday (19/3), underwent a civil hearing to determine the change of name and gender status at the Tondano District Court, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. The hearing process itself was conducted virtually, with Aprilia being in Jakarta, accompanied by a number of military personnel and her parents. Various touching moments were presented during the hearing process. Check out the photos below.
The woman is now officially male. Her name has also changed to Aprilio Perkasa Manganang.
On Friday morning (19/3), Aprilio underwent a virtual identity change hearing with the PN Tondano.
Aprilio underwent the hearing in Jakarta, accompanied by TNI members and his parents.
As is known, since childhood Aprilio has suffered from hypospadias, a genital malformation commonly experienced by male infants at birth. Eventually, he grew up as a woman.
Aprilio even joined the Indonesian women's volleyball team and won various awards, before deciding to retire in 2020.
From a young age, Aprilio really wanted to be a man. However, due to family economic problems, he couldn't do anything about the anomaly he experienced.
When his gender was officially determined as male, tears of joy couldn't be contained. Aprilio was so touched and happy because his wish finally came true.
Previously, Aprilio underwent surgery at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto. He was given the name 'Lanang' by the Chairwoman of Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Hetty Andika Perkasa.
After this, Aprilio will continue his work in the Indonesian Army. He may receive new tasks and roles.
This good news also touched Aprilio's parents. They are happy because finally their long-time wish for their child has come true.
Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, General Andika Perkasa, is the most influential figure in this whole process. He is considered as an adoptive father by Aprilio.
