Anies Baswedan was present at the funeral of Ibrahim Sjarief Assegaf, the husband of Najwa Shihab, who passed away on Tuesday (20/5/2025) at 14:29 WIB. Anies' presence was a form of respect for someone who has been widely recognized in intellectual and social circles.

When met at the funeral home in the Jeruk Purut area, South Jakarta, Anies expressed deep impressions of the deceased. He admitted that he felt a great loss and was shocked by the passing of his friend.

"We all feel the loss, our friend. Ibrahim Assegaf. The deceased was a good person, very good. He was friends with many people. Always pleasant, very intelligent in discussions," said Anies.

According to Anies, the deceased was not only a pleasant person but also contributed to various social activities and thoughts. He referred to Ibrahim as an extraordinary figure who inspired many.

"We always feel that this is an extraordinarily intelligent person. Therefore, we all truly feel that in all his activities he was always contributive," he continued.

The news of the deceased's passing shocked many, especially considering his daily life which was known to be healthy and active in sports.

"He has always been a very fit and athletic person, able to reach the peaks of mountains. So we were all shocked," Anies said.

Anies also reminisced about his last moments with the deceased during the wedding anniversary celebration of Quraish Shihab. At that time, Ibrahim still looked healthy and fit. "We met during Pak Quraish's wedding anniversary. He was still healthy," he recalled.

The former Governor of DKI Jakarta prayed that Ibrahim passed away in a state of husnul khatimah and hoped that the family left behind would be given strength. "We believe the deceased returned in a state of husnul khatimah," he said.

Ibrahim's body will be buried on Wednesday (21/5) at 10:00 AM WIB at TPU Jeruk Purut. Until the evening, the mourning house was still filled with mourners from public figures, relatives, and close friends of the family.
