8 Facts About El Ibnu 'Elkasih' Converting Religion, Admitting His Faith is Shaken Because of Heavy Life Trials

Yes, the man whose real name is Noventino Budi Lesmana has been suffering from a stroke since 2015. Now, El Ibnu is unable to speak and must use a wheelchair to move around.

Because of his condition, El Ibnu was abandoned by his wife and family. He was then entrusted to an orphanage, and the news became popular after it was revealed to the mass media.

Another surprising fact is that El Ibnu has converted religions, from Islam to Christianity. Previously, El Ibnu never discussed his beliefs in public. It is understandable that many fans are curious. And to answer the fans' curiosity, El Ibnu finally spoke up..

"This is my life's journey, a musician who is POOR, STROKE-STRICKEN, and DIVORCED by the only person who should have been my COMPANION IN DEATH. 1. Father Converts to Islam for Love

In the beginning of the story, Elkasih tells about his father who converted to Islam for his mother. However, this decision was made out of pure love, not from the heart.

"I was born from the blood of HKBP Christians. Papa converted to Islam for mama, but it was only for the sake of love, nothing more. And I live as a strong traditional Muslim, even leaning towards being strict," writes El Ibnu.

2. El Ibnu Used to Be a Muslim with an Arab-Minded Perspective

El Ibnu himself eventually grew up following the beliefs of his parents as a Muslim. In fact, the Islamic teachings that El Ibnu received at that time were quite strict.

"How could it not be? Out of all my girlfriends, I chose the one who wears a hijab, not the sexy, shiny ones. I am against doctor's medicine, I have a Habatussaudah-minded perspective, my Islam is very Arab and comprehensive.

El Ibnu does not deny that his faith has fluctuated. And the divorce lawsuit he received from his wife in 2016 was the lowest point for El Ibnu.

"My teacher was right. FAITH goes up and down, like a balloon that expands and deflates in difficult or happy times. Mostly when I'm happy. But me? When the balloon bursts, my faith explodes because of what happened. Especially after receiving the divorce papers in September 2016. It was a great disaster for me. I couldn't get angry, I couldn't commit suicide, I couldn't even cry," he continued.

4. Thinking of Ending Life

When his life was in chaos, El Ibnu once thought of ending his life in a bad way. Instead of committing suicide, he chose to apostatize or leave Islam because of the heavy burden of his life.

"Then I was silent, thinking, how can I destroy my life in this world and the hereafter? Then I remembered the Hidayah magazine, the punishment for apostates. And then clinggg. I apostatized," he said.

 

5. Undergo Baptism

Not just empty words, El Ibnu immediately decided to embrace Christianity, shortly after he was sued for divorce by his wife. Even during the baptism process, there was a witness who accompanied him.

"Without thinking, without catechism, I immediately registered for baptism in GBI, accompanied by my adopted sister. December 4, 2016," recalled the Elkasih vocalist.

6. Opposed by Family

Of course, El Ibnu's decision was opposed by his family. However, at that time, El Ibnu was considered the backbone of the family, so in the end, no one in the family dared to express their disagreement.

"After my baptism, I never went to church. I'm sure my family would oppose it, but no one dares to confront me. How could they? I have been the backbone all this time. So, one of the reasons why my family turned a blind eye to me is this. Plus, I CAN'T ASK. It's false to say that I ask my family," he asserted.

El Ibnu initially embraced Christianity only out of anger and a desire to apostate. However, slowly and unexpectedly, he found the answers he had been searching for.

"But even though I don't worship, God speaks directly through His word. And my eyes were opened, and in my heart, I said, 'Where is the falsehood of the Bible? This is not the path to hell. THIS IS HEAVEN. I continue to grow. ALONE! And in PNIEL, my field of sowing," Ibnu explained.

8. Message For The Fans

El Ibnu understands that his decision will surely disappoint the fans. However, he emphasizes that his decision is final and now he has become a better person.

"My good fans, please accept it. I am still the same, even better. My message is, learn to live a holy life in mind, action, and speech. I love you all. And God bless. WASSALAM," Ibnu concluded.
