Ferry Irawan once experienced the coldness of prison cells due to a domestic violence case against Venna Melinda. Ferry Irawan considered this experience very heartbreaking. He, who did not feel guilty of committing domestic violence, instead received a prison sentence. Based on that, Ferry Irawan is motivated to study again by taking the Law department.
"Alhamdulillah, I am a student again. Now I want to take the Study Plan Card (KRS)," said Ferry Irawan when met at Bung Karno University, Friday (15/9/2023).
This 46-year-old man said that even though he is no longer young, age is not a barrier for him to gain legal knowledge.
"Because I want to learn. It is personal experience that actually makes me want to dive into law. Because I see a lot that needs to be straightened out, fought for," he said.
Ferry Irawan was put in prison, starting from a report by Venna Melinda. Venna reported allegations of domestic violence to the Kediri Police on January 8, 2023, after a quarrel with Ferry Irawan in a hotel.
Venna Melinda's report was then transferred to the East Java Regional Police. On January 12, 2023, Ferry Irawan was named a suspect and detained.
Then Ferry Irawan was charged with Article 44 paragraph (1) and Article 45 of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning Domestic Violence (KDRT) for alleged physical and psychological violence against Venna Melinda with a threat of five years imprisonment.
In the verdict of the Kediri District Court, the panel of judges sentenced Ferry Irawan to one year in prison. The panel stated that Ferry was not proven to have committed physical violence against Venna Melinda as stated in Article 44 paragraph 1 of the Law on Domestic Violence (KDRT) as charged by the Public Prosecutor.
After serving several months in detention, Ferry Irawan was declared completely free after receiving remission on August 17, 2023.
