This year's Eid feels different for Armand Maulana and his family, who are currently residing in England. Far from the homeland, the vocalist of the band GIGI actually found a new family from the Indonesian Embassy, making the Eid moments still warm with a gathering event. Everything is prepared by the KBRI family members themselves, who are Indonesian people living in England, including Armand Maulana's family.
Among all the dishes served, the one that caught Armand Maulana's attention the most is ketupat. Unlike ketupat in Indonesia that is wrapped in palm leaves, British ketupat is molded in a tray.
This unique way of cooking ketupat cannot be avoided because there is no janur in London. Although different, this British ketupat is no different from regular ketupat after being cut and served.
The friendly session began after the Indonesian ambassador in London, Desra Percaya, came to Wisma Nusantara. The dishes served were enjoyed with joy.
The halal bihalal event continued with a virtual meeting with all Indonesian citizens scattered throughout the United Kingdom. Direct face-to-face meetings are not possible due to the pandemic.
