9 Photos of Uya Kuya Clarifying After Going Viral for Recording the Burned House of a Fire Victim in LA, Mistaken for a Scammer Seeking Donations

Kapanlagi.com - Uya Kuya finally provided clarification regarding the viral video of himself with his family making content in front of a property of a house that was burned down in Altadena, Los Angeles, United States.

In the video taken by a local resident, Uya along with his wife, Astrid Kuya, and their children were seen at the fire location, which sparked protests from the homeowners. According to Uya Kuya, the incident actually happened a long time ago, but it only went viral recently.

"I don’t know why it’s going viral now. It actually happened a long time ago. It was a long time ago, not long after the first fire," said Uya Kuya when contacted by reporters on Sunday (19/1/2025).

Uya explained that his presence at the location was not without reason. He was there at the request of several friends and media to show the actual condition after the fire.

"We are from the house of one of the Indonesian citizens that burned in Pasadena. We then walked a few blocks from there. I was asked to make a video by several friends, media, and Indonesian people. They requested a real video from there," he said.

According to him, the video was made to clarify the information circulating in Indonesia. There are many hoaxes and videos that use AI technology, which only show the losses of wealthy people in America.

"Because in Indonesia there are many hoaxes, AI videos, and videos that only show wealthy people in America being affected. In fact, there are many workers, middle class, whose homes were more affected," Uya said.

Uya also revealed that his presence at the location actually had permission from the authorities around the fire site.

<nil>

"At that time, there were national guards, FBI, we chatted for a bit. We were also allowed by them. Without permission, as long as we were in a public space or on the sideroad. We weren't the only ones there. There were many other people, foreigners, who were also taking pictures. In the place where we were reprimanded, we were the only ones who were scolded," explained Uya.

However, the incident occurred when the homeowner reprimanded them. The property owner misunderstood, thinking that Uya and his family were scammers taking advantage of the fire situation to seek donations.

<nil>

"So the ones who reprimanded us, the property owners, had already taken a video even before we arrived at the location. They thought we were scammers taking advantage of the fire victims who were seeking donations for personal gain," he said.

"The point is, they think we are scammers exploiting social media to open donations for personal interests. That's the issue in LA right now. Many are doing it on social media," he concluded.
