Having moved to Germany in 2012, Ragil only informed his family about his sexual orientation in 2014 before eventually being open about it on social media as well.

Although initially hiding his status as gay, Ragil finally made that big decision because he felt constrained and couldn't be himself.

In addition, Ragil himself did not want his family to know about his sexual orientation from others, whether it's social media posts or friends.

"I have social media, but I can't express myself on my social media because I'm afraid it would be even harder if my family knows from my social media. Especially if my friends know and tell my family why their child didn't say it," he said.

Of course, Ragil's confession was not immediately accepted by his family. Behind the harmony displayed on social media, there is an untold story.

Ragil said that his family finally could accept that he has a different sexual orientation in early 2015.

Furthermore, Ragil, who often shares moments with his family, especially his mother, revealed the struggle his mother went through to accept her son's condition.

There were tears everywhere for months during the acceptance process. Ragil himself kept informing his family about LGBT matters.

"People think it's a fairly easy process, meaning that my mother can appreciate her child, but before that, no one knew how much she suffered to get to that position," said Ragil.

Ragil also emphasized that his family did not accept his sexual orientation because he gave money and invited them on a vacation to Germany.

In addition to the acceptance process, there are a series of consequences borne by the mother and family. Including the anger of some family members.

"So I don't force them to quickly accept, but I let them go through the process and I also let myself go through the process that must be ready for the consequences if there are family members who are really angry," he said.

It is not uncommon for close people to also become targets of negative comments from netizens on social media because of Ragil's sexual orientation as a gay person who 'comes out'.

However, Ragil considers it as a long process of self-maturation until they can become a family that respects their child's orientation.
