Willie Salim, a content creator, became the center of public attention after the incident of 200 kilograms of rendang meat going missing during a large cooking event in Palembang on March 18, 2025. The video went viral on social media, where Willie went to the toilet, but when he returned, the rendang was suddenly gone. In his latest post on his personal Instagram, Willie expressed his apology. Willie emphasized that the incident was not the fault of the people of Palembang, but rather due to a lack of preparation on his part.
"I sincerely apologize to all the people of Palembang who were hurt because of the viral rendang. There are many unpleasant narratives about the people of Palembang," said Willie in a video posted on his personal Instagram.
"This is not the fault of the people of Palembang. It is entirely my fault because I was not well-prepared," he continued.
With a sad expression, Willie expressed his desire to gather and eat together with thousands of people from Palembang. Even though the rendang he made was lost, Willie was not disappointed; instead, he was happy to see the enthusiasm of the people.
Many people commented on Willie's content, as it was considered to create a negative perception of the people of Palembang. Willie emphasized that the incident was not staged.
"Honestly, I was just shocked to see the extraordinary enthusiasm of the people. This is a lesson for me. I didn’t engineer that, I just didn’t consider that it could happen, and that was my foolishness. Don't blame the people of Palembang. If I had cooked earlier and prepared more thoroughly, this wouldn't have happened," he concluded.
I hope this incident can be a valuable lesson for Willie Salim. Moving forward, he can prepare more thoroughly and neatly when cooking for a very large number of people.
