Allegedly Violating Royalty Rights of the Song 'Sayang', Warner Music is Sued by Posan Tobing for 5 Billion Rupiah!

Kapanlagi.com - Musician Posan Tobing is suing Warner Music Indonesia record label and several other defendants in the Central Jakarta District Court. The lawsuit is related to the alleged violation of royalty rights for the song "Sayang" sung by singer Shae. It is known that the song "Sayang" was composed by the former drummer of the band Kotak.

Now, the case of alleged royalty rights violation has entered the trial. Today, Monday (11/29/2021), the trial has entered the examination of witnesses from the plaintiff. One of the witnesses brought by the plaintiff is Posan Tobing.

"Today we came to the Central Jakarta District Court solely to question the results or rights of Posan Tobing. We don't know yet what the outcome of the trial will be, but what is certain is that we came here only to demand our rights," said Posan Tobing's lawyer, T. Djohansyah, at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday (11/29/2021).

"Posan Tobing's legal team is suing the music house (Warner Music Indonesia) WMI in Indonesia and its affiliated company in Malaysia," he added.

The lawsuit has been filed by Posan Tobing against Warner Music Indonesia since June 2020. However, the pandemic has caused delays in the trial. Regarding the value claimed by Posan Tobing against the music label, it is approximately Rp 5 billion.

"The value we are requesting the Court to start dealing with this justice issue is above 5 billion (Rp)," said Djohansyah. "Regarding the lawsuit's name, it can be seen in the Court. The music house in Indonesia and its affiliates abroad," added Posan.

Currently, Posan Tobing's party is preparing evidence regarding the alleged violation of royalty rights for the song "Sayang" sung by Shae. It should be noted that the song "Sayang" was composed by Posan in 2016. The song sung by Shae became a hit, even receiving 10 platinum awards.

"We have prepared all kinds of evidence, and everything is ready," said Djohansyah. "Posan Tobing, this creative worker, this artist, created a song titled 'Sayang' that received 10 platinum awards, maybe even more than that. Let's help check how many platinum awards Posan Tobing received," added Djohansyah.

Meanwhile, the legal representative from Warner Music Indonesia, Reza Reynaldi and Leo Famli, have not been able to provide any information regarding the lawsuit filed by the drummer of the band Winner.

"Our client from Warner Music is unable to provide any information at the moment because they are currently being examined. Basically, we cannot provide any information. The court will make the best fair decision," said Leo. "We will wait for the trial. It can be seen that during the trial, other evidence will be cross-checked," concluded Reza Reynaldi.
