Ammar Zoni at the Plea Hearing, Regrets Not Being by His Father's Side When He Took His Last Breath

"However, my father eventually left me forever. He left without knowing that his child had been captured again. He left with questions, where is his eldest child? Where is the child who once made him proud? Even until my father closed his eyes, I was not by his side. Even until my father passed away," said Ammar Zoni at the Central Jakarta District Court, Thursday (2/4/2026).

Ammar recounted that losing his father was the second blow after he had to let go of his marriage. He feels that the sins he committed against his parents are very great. This mental burden increased as he felt he had no opportunity to serve in the final moments of his father's life.

"That is the greatest sin I have ever committed against my parents. And this is the biggest blow after being left by my wife, then my father. My father passed away at the age of 59 due to terminal stage liver cancer," said Ammar.

In fact, he recounted a heartbreaking moment when he was granted permission to see his father's body under very strict supervision. The condition of having his hands handcuffed and wearing a prison vest in front of his extended family made him feel very ashamed and devastated. He considered it the lowest moment in his life's journey.

"After my father was shrouded, I was finally granted permission by the police chief to go home briefly to see my father's body with both hands handcuffed, wearing a prison vest, and escorted with long firearms. It was as if I were a major terrorist," he said.

This incident served as a harsh reminder for Ammar that his actions had destroyed many valuable things. Now, in front of the panel of judges, he hopes for a policy that could give him the opportunity to improve himself. Ammar wants to atone for his past mistakes for a better future without drug dependence.

"In front of my extended family, I came without ever removing the handcuffs and the prison vest. I sat silently staring at my father's body. I kissed his hand and my heart couldn't bear it, I cried uncontrollably. It's enough, I am the one who hurt him, even until my father passed away I was still hurting him with my hands handcuffed and wearing a prison vest," he concluded.
