Through Celine Evangelista's Youtube channel, she admitted that the reason for her conversion was because of marriage. She even had doubts about her decision.
"Before I studied the religion, I am still learning now. Initially, it was mainly because of the marriage, without conviction," said Angel Lelga.
"Previously, I was married to Rhoma Irama. When I got married, it was because we were shooting a film together, we liked each other and all that, so eventually I got married and converted to Islam," she continued.
It turns out that the process of converting to Islam was not easy for her. It took her two years to be sure of her decision to become a convert.
"From his guidance, it still took me one or two years to be sure if this could really lead me to become a Muslim, it's all a process," she said.
In her third year of embracing Islam, Angel Lelga decided to deepen her knowledge of Islamic teachings and even attended a pesantren (Islamic boarding school). She became more religious and started wearing hijab.
"Until now, I can still wear hijab, it still makes me a Muslim, Insha Allah I will remain steadfast. Because there were many processes I went through after one, two years of uncertainty," said Angel.
"But it turns out that in the third year I entered a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) and I studied it as well. I studied everything, read the Quran a lot, read many books. Insha Allah, I have been able to endure until now," she said.
