Anggun C. Sasmi Experienced Frustration Not Being Able to Train Physically with the Cast of the Film 'PARA PERASUK'

The involvement of Anggun C. Sasmi in the film PARA PERASUK has indeed posed significant challenges behind the scenes. Because she resides in France, Anggun has to fight against distance and time to be able to participate in the series of shooting preparations with director Wregas Bhanuteja and other actors.

Anggun admitted that she felt mentally burdened because she could not always be physically present in the routine training sessions or readings. She had to settle for participating in the preparation process through long-distance video connections.

"I actually felt a bit frustrated that I live in Paris, so I can't train together with the others. So sometimes when I'm in Indonesia, I get to train reading together, but if not, it's through Zoom, you know," said Anggun C. Sasmi when met at XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Tuesday (14/04/2026).

In addition to the challenge of distance, another challenge faced by Anggun was when she first received the film script. She admitted to being confused about the content of the story and the instructions given by Wregas because this was her first experience reading a film script.

This confusion made her hesitant to ask questions for fear of being seen as not understanding. However, as time went on, Anggun chose to surrender and fully follow the director's instructions. "Honestly, when I first read the script, I was still confused and didn't understand. But to be honest, at that time I didn't want to ask, afraid I would be laughed at, 'Ugh!'" said Anggun while laughing.

Although she had to go through a difficult process, Anggun placed her full trust in Wregas Bhanuteja's vision. She felt that her duty as an actress was to give her best to realize what the director wanted.

For him, obedience to the director's instructions is the key to success in this collective film production. He believes that what Wregas asks for is something that the actors can definitely do. "We are at the service of the director. So we all believe in him, that what he wants, what he asks from us is something we can do," said Anggun.

The experience of working from a distance ultimately bore sweet results after the film successfully premiered at Sundance. Anggun now feels proud because all his frustrations have been completely paid off with the extraordinary quality of the film.

"But what I actually learned from this is not to be afraid to feel stupid when starting something new or learning something new. For me, if we make mistakes, it means we want to learn to improve and we are experiencing," concluded Anggun.

The movie 'Para Perasuk' had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2025 and will be released in Indonesian cinemas on April 23, 2026. This film stars Chicco Kurniawan as Pawit, Bryan Domani as Ananto, Anggun as Guru Asri, Maudy Ayunda as Laksmi, and Angga Yunanda as Bayu.
