Kapanlagi.com - Kadokawa has officially released the trailer video for the anime THE SUMMER HIKARU DIED, which is an adaptation of the similarly titled manga (HIKARU GA SHINDA NATSU). This anime will star Chiaki Kobayashi as Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Shuichiro Umeda as Hikaru Indou.

The anime THE SUMMER HIKARU DIED is directed by Ryohei Takeshita, who previously succeeded with a series of anime such as EROMANGA SENSEI, JELLYFISH CAN'T SWIM IN THE NIGHT, and POKEMON: PALDEAN WINDS. Yuichi Takahashi will be responsible for character design and the head animation director.

THE SUMMER HIKARU DIED is a manga by Mokumokuren that was published in August 2021 on the Young Ace Up Kadokawa site. This manga was previously adapted into a light novel by Mio Nukaga in December 2023. Mokumokuren has stated that this manga is planned to reach a total of 10 volumes.

The manga THE SUMMER HIKARU DIED was nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho Awards. The New York Public Library listed this manga as one of the Best Books for Teens in 2023. This manga is also included in the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) 2024 list for Best Graphic Novels for Teens by the American Library Association. The creator, Mokumokuren, was also nominated for Best Writer/Artist in the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards 2024.

2. Synopsis

Yoshiki and Hikaru are two teenage boys living in a small town in the Japanese countryside. Despite having opposite personalities and different interests, they remain close friends.

However, one day in winter, Hikaru is severely injured while hiking alone in the mountains. As he nears death, a mysterious supernatural being meets him, consumes him, and then transforms into him in the process.

"Hikaru" in this case possesses all the feelings and memories of the original Hikaru, but remains a different entity—and Yoshiki quickly realizes this. Yoshiki wants to stay with "Hikaru", but "Hikaru"'s strange demeanor and the other supernatural beings, as well as the hunters of these beings, may make that impossible.
