Baim Wong Joins Billiards Tournament After 10 Years of Hiatus

Actor and director Baim Wong is once again capturing the public's attention with his skills outside the acting world. This time, the former husband of Paula Verhoeven showcased his talent in the celebrity billiards tournament titled Carabao International Open 2026. His presence at the event held in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 became a highlight because he has not been seen holding a billiards cue competitively for a long time.

Who would have thought, this father of two actually has quite an impressive track record in the sport of cue sports. Baim revealed that he almost became an athlete at the National Training Center (Pelatnas) in his youth. However, fate had other plans as he chose to continue his education at that time.

"I just came down (from the mountain) for real... I mean, I've won championships before, student championships, many championships. But I stopped," said Baim Wong at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2, Sunday (8/2/2026).

This 44-year-old man explains the reason why he did not continue his career as a professional athlete despite having great potential. That tough decision was made to pursue his academic degree. "Back in 1999 and 2000, I was almost part of the national training center. In the end, I said 'no', I went back to college and stopped," he continued.

This moment marks the first time for Baim Wong to return to play billiards in an official tournament after a ten-year hiatus. Despite having a wealth of experience and solid basic techniques, Baim admitted to coming to the tournament without any special preparation. He even underestimated the skills of his opponents, who turned out to be very tactical.

"I underestimated (my opponents), that was my mistake... It turns out they are good at guarding their balls. Their safety. Oh, they know how to play everything. In the end, I thought, 'Oh, this is dangerous too'," he said while laughing.

That experience apparently ignited Baim's spirit to return to this old hobby more seriously. He promised that in the next match he would apply game strategies like a professional, including defensive techniques that had previously overwhelmed him.

"Maybe next time we already know. We'll face our opponents like professionals. We'll control the ball, we'll snook, we'll do this. This is just for introduction," he emphasized.

Baim's participation in this tournament is also based on his appreciation for the seriousness of the organizers. Hendra Kurniawan, as the event's initiator, admitted to having quite a bit of difficulty arranging the film star's schedule, but Baim's presence has proven to significantly boost audience enthusiasm.

"And many are waiting for Baim Wong to perform. When we posted, 'Wow, Baim Wong is coming down from the mountain, sir!', that's why people are also enthusiastic," Hendra stated proudly.
