For Kimberly, Indonesian food such as rendang and dendeng has good durability for long journeys. These dishes can also be a lifesaver when she misses the local flavors amidst a packed worship schedule.

"There is rendang. There is rendang... There is dendeng balado. There is chicken noodles... that’s not it... If I don’t, it’s like... like for me, from the last time I went there, I was happy with the food there and it was all fine," said Kimberly Ryder when met at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Wednesday (4/3/2026).

She added that her taste buds are actually quite flexible with foreign food. However, bringing a little stock of home food remains a priority to support her energy during fasting in challenging weather.

"I’m just happy that Middle Eastern food still suits my taste. Besides that, what should I bring... biscuits, cereal. That’s basically it if... for us bringing it again, ah I want Indonesian food, maybe just bring two... two portions," she said.

The mother, Irvina Zainal, actually has her own concerns about the food stock. According to her, the food brought might not last until Eid because it usually gets consumed by the time of sahur.

"Oh, it might be gone before Eid, it will be gone just for sahur," said Irvina Zainal while laughing.

This Ramadan is providing a different experience for Kimberly Ryder. This is because she is not only observing fasting in Saudi Arabia, but it is also planned that she will celebrate Eid al-Fitr there. This marks the first time for Kimberly to experience the atmosphere of Eid in the birthplace of Islam.
