Bullied for 3 Years While in Junior High School, This One Thing Finally Saved Afgan's Life

"I was really bullied in my junior high school. I was bullied for three years," said Afgan in a recent press conference.

1. Bullied by Friends

Listening to music became one of Afgan's ways to calm himself down due to being bullied by his friends. Afgan said that he always listened to the song 'Mengertilah Kasih' sung by Ruth Sahanaya.

"It's like coming home and the only thing that can calm my heart is music, and one of them is buying Mama Uthe's CD. Listening to it at home feels safe because when I go to school, I feel like I'm being bullied again," said Afgan.

2. Taken to a Music Store

Afgan has known music since he was a child, especially songs from Ruth Sahanaya. Because of his love for music, Afgan was also always taken to a music store and allowed to buy any cassette he wanted.

"So what saved my life at that time was music, one of which was the song 'Mengertilah Kasih'," he said.

3. Covering the Song

As if in a dream, Afgan sings again the song "Lagu Mengertilah Kasih". Duetting with one of the song's creators, Andi Rianto, this popular song in 2022 is packaged so grandly.

"Lagu Mengertilah Kasih has inspired me since I was little. Hopefully, I can inspire the new generation. On the one hand, I am grateful to be able to collaborate with one of Indonesia's best maestros like Andi Rianto," said Afgan.

"The latest version is realized with the presence of an orchestra consisting of 65 players from Budapest. Musically, this is a successful remake because the essence of the song is not lost," concluded Andi Rianto.
