Chronology of Bintang Emon Being Accused of Being a Drug Addict by Buzzer, Starting from the 'Accidental' Video - Even the DPR Speaks Out

Kapanlagi.com - Since Monday morning (15/6/2020), the name of stand-up comedian, Bintang Emon, has been on the trending list on Twitter Indonesia. This is all because of the accusations directed at him after making a satirical video. For those who don't know the story, here's the chronology!

 

1. Starting from This Video

It all started from a video uploaded by Bintang on Saturday (13/6/2020) with a short caption 'Ga sengaja' (Not on purpose). The video, which has been watched more than 10 million times, Bintang talks about the case of Novel Baswedan who allegedly accidentally got hit in the face with acid.

This criticism from Bintang received support from a number of Indonesian celebrities including Vidi Aldiano, Anji, Taqy Malik, Tretan Muslim, Angga Dwi Sasongko, Najwa Shihab and others. 'Ga Sengaja' also trended on Twitter.

2. Accusations from Buzzer

After going viral, Bintang Emon received accusations from fake accounts that often discuss political issues on Twitter, commonly known as buzzers. Netizens refer to them as 'BuzzerRp', or paid information spreaders.

The buzzer accounts claimed that Bintang Emon was restless because he was afraid of being tested for drug use. Fortunately, many netizens didn't believe it and instead showed support for Bintang Emon.

3. Start Being Terrorized?

Not only that, these buzzers also started attacking Bintang Emon's personal email account, brother, and manager. Fortunately, other stand-up comedians like Pandji Pragiwaksono gave full support to Bintang Emon.

Netizens are also worried that Bintang Emon will be further defamed because of this issue.

4. Novel Baswedan's Comment

The news about Bintang Emon also reached Novel Baswedan. This senior investigator from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also gave his comment.

"Of course, we are all concerned when someone who speaks the truth and criticizes is attacked. Hopefully, Bintang Emon will be more loved by the people for daring to voice the truth. Those who attack should realize that defending injustice is a bad deed and disliked by good people," said Novel, as reported by Suara.com on Monday (15/6/2020).

5. DPR Opens Up

Next to speak up about this issue is Saleh Daulay, the deputy chairperson of the PAN Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives. Saleh stated that no one should be threatened for expressing criticism towards the government.

"Yes, we hope that the government has officials in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology who can investigate and trace any form of bullying, defamation, and threats," Saleh said when interviewed by CNNIndonesia.com at the PAN Faction Room in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday (15/6).

6. Bintang Emon Shows Drug Test Results

Bintang Emon responded promptly to this case. He immediately underwent a drug test and showed the results on his Instagram account. The examination was conducted at RS Pondok Indah on June 15, 2020.

"The patient was examined at RS Pondok Indah Puri Indah and underwent urine tests for Amphetamine, Oplates Coccaine, Marijuana (THC), and Benzodiazepine, and the results were negative," stated the excerpt from the certificate.

7. Still Harvesting Support

Until Tuesday morning (16/6/2020), the name Bintang Emon is still being talked about. Even netizens created the hashtag #BintangEmonBestBoy.
