After six years of waiting, the Danur Universe is back with the latest film titled DANUR 4. This film is an adaptation of a story by Risa Saraswati, with Awi Suryadi once again trusted as the director. Prilly Latuconsina also reprises her role as Risa, a character that has become closely associated with her.
"It took six years to continue with DANUR 4. Just like Kak Lele said during Danur 3, 'I think this is the last one since it's already a trilogy, right?' But then we were informed by Mr. Manoj that we would have Danur 4 after all," said Prilly at the celebration and announcement of the cast at MD Place, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Friday (21/2/2025).
DANUR 4 continues the story of Risa Saraswati, who still has the ability to see supernatural beings even though she is no longer with her ghost friends, Peter and the gang. This time, Risa is faced with terror from Canting, a ghostly figure from the past that re-emerges to terrorize her younger sister, Riri, played by young actress Anya Geraldine.
"I am very excited because I think the character of Risa is the most relatable to me. I have never played the same character in the three previous films," Prilly continued enthusiastically. She also revealed that she thought the Danur trilogy was the end of Risa's journey.
"I thought DANUR 3 was the last one, because if you see, that was Risa's farewell to Peter and the gang. I also wanted to take a break from horror for a while. But Mr. Manoj has been saying for almost a year, 'I want to continue with DANUR 4.' At first, I wanted to see the script first, to see if it would be exciting to continue this story. Thank God, we found a very fitting script," she added.
Unlike the previous three films, DANUR 4 presents a more mature Risa. Now, she works as a civil servant (PNS), a significant change in her life. "In this film, I finally get to wear a PNS uniform. Riri has also grown up, has a boyfriend, and there is the character Canting who previously appeared in DANUR 2. Canting will be played again by Anya Geraldine," explained Prilly.
The story of DANUR 4 begins when Risa attends a surprise engagement party for her sister, Riri, which is prepared by Dimas, Riri's boyfriend. However, the atmosphere turns tense when Canting, the ghost haunting the show, begins to terrorize Riri. On the other hand, Risa experiences terror in the form of recurring deaths, making this film full of tension and mystery.
In addition to Prilly, this film features a number of new actors who represent exciting characters in the story. The thanksgiving event at MD Place even included empty chairs along with Peter CS's favorite items, the ghost friends of Risa, as a symbol that they remain part of the Danur universe.
"For fans who have been waiting for the continuation of the Danur story, we are confident that this film will provide a deeper experience. The story is more mature, the characters are stronger, and of course, the terror is more frightening," said Manoj Punjabi, producer from MD Pictures.
