Diagnosed with Stage 4C Cancer, Comedian Qomar Undergoes Chemotherapy for the Next Six Months

Kapanlagi.com - Comedian who is a member of the group Empat Sekawan, Nurul Qomar or better known as H. Qomar is back to his usual activities after several weeks of intensive treatment in the hospital. It is known that the comedian, who works as a lecturer, suffers from colon cancer.

"The operation was quite large, the specialist doctor diagnosed malignant cancer in the large intestine and small intestine, stage four C. So the digestion is changed, not through the anus, but through a hole in the waist," said Qomar on TVRI, Central Jakarta, Monday (27/9/2021).

Now, Qomar's condition has improved after receiving treatment in the hospital. However, the 61-year-old comedian will have to undergo chemotherapy for the next six months.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), I'm fine, God willing. I am in a healthy state, both physically and mentally. I am still in the process of recovery for almost two months. Starting tomorrow, I will begin chemotherapy for the next six months," said Qomar.

"I can eat and drink normally now, but I can't consume spicy and instant foods. I can eat chicken, but only free-range chicken, not commercial chicken. It's normal, but the bowel movement is currently changing its system. It will return to normal after six months," he added.

1. Genetic Factors and Diet

Qomar said that the cause of his colon cancer is due to genetic factors and an unhealthy diet. This was known after he checked his health condition at the hospital.

"After undergoing internal examinations, scans, x-rays, and all medical processes, it was found that 'Pak Haji has had genetic factors for a long time'. So it's genetic factors, but maybe there is one unhealthy eating habit," he said.

"(Now) I can no longer eat instant food, instant noodles. If I want something savory, I can have homemade chicken broth, but I can no longer consume instant savory food. Because slowly but surely, it triggers cancer cells," added H Qomar.

After undergoing treatment, Qomar resumed his normal activities, one of which is teaching at a university in Bekasi.

"Yes (reducing activities). I am still teaching at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of As Syafi'iyah Islamic University in Jatiwaringin. Currently, I am teaching online. This is because of the monumental event of the Indonesian Comedy Artists Union, I have to attend. Because I was involved in the establishment of PASKI," Qomar concluded.
