Drag Tina Toon Into Copyright Lawsuit, Engkan Anima's Guitarist Denies Seeking the Spotlight

Kapanlagi.com - The single titled Bintang released by Tina Toon in 2015 has led to legal issues. The former child singer became one of the defendants in a case filed by Anima's guitarist named Engkan Herikan at the Central Jakarta Commercial Court.

Engkan filed the lawsuit in April 2021 after finding out that the song Bintang was recycled without his name being credited as the songwriter. Engkan claimed to have suffered material losses of Rp 750 million and immaterial losses of Rp 10 billion.

There were many speculations about the reason why Engkan filed the lawsuit several years after the single was released. However, it was later explained that the man did not know that the song Bintang was officially recycled and commercialized.

"Initially, we didn't know. That's why it took us four years to study this issue. We didn't act recklessly, we learned from not knowing. That's why we asked for help from lawyer friends, we didn't act hastily because it involves many parties," said Viee Vikan, Engkan's wife, during a press conference in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Monday (30/8/2021).

1. Not Intending to Seek the Spotlight

Initially, Engkan Erikan tried not to publicize this issue. They wanted to resolve it within the family. However, when Tina Toon spoke to the media, they also explained to avoid any confusion.

"Actually, we intentionally kept silent about this case since March. Because we have good intentions here, we don't want to start a war, we just want peace, we just ask you to return our name if you are indeed at fault. But because Tina Toon eventually revealed it, we have to clarify it so that the public out there doesn't have their own opinions," explained Viee Vikan.

With this lawsuit in the Commercial Court, Engkan Herikan does not intend to seek the spotlight. The guitarist of the band Anima only wants to get his rights as the creator of the song.

"Engkan doesn't want to be in the spotlight here. Sorry, sorry, Engkan doesn't want that. Making a report like this, Engkan also doesn't actually want to. The main thing is, please return Engkan's name," said Engkan on the same occasion.
