Event 'Jalan Batin Ningsih Tinampi' Displays Possession Scenes, Receives Reprimand from Central KPI

Kapanlagi.com - The figure of Ningsih Tinampi went viral. The alternative medicine expert from Pasuruan, East Java, is said to be able to cure various diseases, so she has many patients who are willing to queue and wait for months.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the television station created a program with Ningsih Tinampi as the star. The program is called Jalan Batin Ningsih Tinampi which airs on ANTV.

1. There are Possession Scenes

However, the program received a reprimand from the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) for allegedly violating the regulations in the Broadcasting Behavior Guidelines and Broadcast Program Standards (P3SPS) of KPI in 2012. The program received a reprimand on Thursday (16/4/2020).

Based on the reprimand letter sent by the Central KPI to ANTV on April 7, the program in question aired scenes featuring authentic documentation of Ningsih Tinampi's therapy practice, which included a possessed woman. Not only that, Ningsih Tinampi was also seen communicating with supernatural beings through the patient's body. These scenes were found in the program Jalan Batin Ningsih Tinampi which aired on March 17, 2020 at 07:23 AM. The Central KPI also found similar content at 08:31 AM and 08:38 AM.

2. Considered Not Educating

Deputy Chairman of the Central KPI, Mulyo Hadi Purnomo, said that although efforts have been made to disguise the face of patients experiencing possession, the content is considered inappropriate to be aired during child-friendly hours.

"The scene does not provide appropriate and educational lessons for children who are currently studying from home due to the corona pandemic. Without the current pandemic situation, P3SPS only allows such content to be aired during adult hours after 22:00," said Mulyo.

3. Violations

The scene has disregarded and violated several articles in P3SPS related to child and adolescent protection as well as classification of broadcast programs. There are six articles in P3SPS that have been disregarded and violated.

"We emphasize that broadcast programs with an R classification are prohibited from displaying content that encourages teenagers to believe in paranormal, occult, magical spiritual practices, supernatural, and/or mystical powers,” said Mulyo.

4. Hope Not to Violate

As a result of this sanction, Mulyo requested ANTV to immediately make internal improvements to the program Jalan Batin Ningsih Tinampi to prevent the same mistakes and violations from recurring. He also requested that ANTV use P3SPS as a reference before broadcasting a program.
