"In my opinion, this could be a threat to soap opera filmmakers in Indonesia if they don't make new breakthroughs in terms of story, cinematography, acting quality, people won't watch anymore," said Nafa when contacted by phone.

"Maybe people in the village who already use a cellphone can buy Viu for only 29 thousand rupiahs a month or Netflix for 79 thousand rupiahs a month, and they can watch whatever they want," continued the mother of one child.

2. Domino Effect

If left unchecked, this will have a domino effect on the Indonesian soap opera industry. Because if it is no longer in demand, it will certainly affect the actors and many people behind the scenes. This is proven by the many comments that came in when Nafa conducted a poll on her Instagram Story.

"They all don't watch soap operas anymore, they all watch Korean dramas. What if all Indonesians watch Korean dramas? Well, it's over. The actors won't have work, and eventually the production houses won't dare to pay big actors because if the soap operas don't sell, if they have to pay new actors, it won't be too expensive. But in the end, they won't produce quality actors," she emphasized.
