On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, a MasterChef finalist and her husband were charged with the murder of their domestic helper. Initially, they lied about the victim's death, but eventually the lies were uncovered.
The perpetrator, named Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen, is a former finalist of MasterChef Malaysia 2012. As reported by the New Straits Times, they did not plead their case to the Magistrate Court judge. The couple is accused of killing Nur Afiah Daeng Damin in their apartment. The incident is believed to have occurred between December 10 and 13.

Etiqah and her previous husband reported that their domestic worker was found lying on the floor of their apartment in Lido, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

The couple faked the death by claiming to have no knowledge of the incident and said they had just returned from a vacation in Kundasang.

Etiqah and her husband are charged under Article 302 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

The finalists of MasterChef Malaysia and her husband were arrested by the police on December 14, 2021, after it was discovered that they had faked the death and provided false testimony.

According to Sabah News, the victim suffered injuries, including burns all over her body. At that time, the victim's body was immediately taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for autopsy.

The victim's family said that since December 10, 2021, they have known about the murder news from their relative Nur Afia, who is also a TKI in Australia.

On December 21, 2021, the perpetrator was finally released on police bail. However, the court re-detained both of them until February 10, 2022, until the trial is completed.

With the charges received, Etiqa, who participated in the MasterChef competition in Malaysia in 2012, and her husband were sentenced to death.
